Poker Run & BBQ Fundraiser for Baby Emilie
The 2-year-old granddaughter of Steve and Darcy Macey was severely beaten allegedly by a caregiver, and a fundraising event will take place Sunday, September 14 to help with extensive medical costs. A poker run from Gateway Cycles in Bend to Hardtails Bar & Grill in Sisters starts with sign-in at Gateway at 9 a.m. (last bike out at 10 a.m.). There will be a BBQ, raffles, bike wash and more at Hardtails, and live music on the outdoor stage at 2 p.m. with Manic Mechanics and Tommy Hogan. The "Sweet as Tonya" Benefit 5k Run/Walk will be held Sunday, September 28 in Sisters to raise funds for Tonya Bruegeman, the wife of a Sisters firefighter/paramedic. Tonya has been diagnosed with brain cancer (astrocytomas) and is undergoing aggressive daily radiation and chemotherapy. A silent auction is also planned. Central Oregon Partnerships for Youth (COPY), is offering a class on Saturday, September 20 to prepare volunteers to become mentors for children with an incarcerated parent.
After training and background checks, volunteers are matched with children in Sisters that share similar interests and who can commit to spending a few hours a week together for a minimum of one year.
