Letters to the Editor 12/11/2013

To the Editor:

Looking around town after the recent "snow event" I see that most businesses have cleared their sidewalks before the City has implemented their proposed snow-removal plan. Most of the problem areas are at vacant lots. This is a code enforcement problem. City code says that sidewalks have to be cleared within 24 hours after it stops snowing. There are several lots that haven't cleared their sidewalks in the 15 years that I have lived in Sisters. We don't need to have the City tell the business owners who is going to clear their sidewalks.

We need the City to enforce current code and tell the bad apples to clear their sidewalks or the City will have it done for them at twice the going rate.

To the Editor:

In the letter of December 4 from Joanne Anttila she states, "A majority of Crossroads lot owners have not expressed need or desire for a paved path."

This is not an accurate statement at all. Many of the letters about the Crossroads trail situation have repeatedly stressed that Crossroads residences were not given that choice to be polled by the Forest Service.

And yet the Crossroads board itself will not ask the simple question of all the owners; do they want a trail at all? Discussions about all the details one way or the other are pointless without that knowledge.

Therefore "the majority" refers only to a selected choice of owners known only to Ms. Anttila.

My apologies to all cribbage players for miscounting my hand in the Bull by Bull column!
