8/10/2013 10:58:00 AM Green Ridge Fire nears containment
On Saturday fire crews responded to 32 smoke reports across Central Oregon. As of 8 a.m. all fires have remained small. A Red Flag warning remains in place for the entire Central Oregon area for abundant lightning through Sunday evening. Some of the storms may bring localized wetting rain, and in some areas cause flash flooding. Resources remain at the ready to respond to any new fire starts as they are reported.
The Green Ridge Fire is now about 1,510 acres and is 75% contained, with 535 personnel assigned. A trace of rain was recorded on the fire overnight. Full containment is expected Sunday evening August 11. Conditions allowed crews to finish burnout operations on the southwest flank, resulting in a secure perimeter around the entire fire. Today efforts will be focused on mop-up and suppression repair. Resources, including helicopters, are being released and made available to other fires and plans are being made to transfer responsibility of the fire to a local incident management team Monday morning. Burning in the interior of the fire will continue, creating smoke which can be expected to settle into the bottom of the Metolius Basin during the night and early morning hours.
Forest Road 11 is open to traffic but road closures in the fire area will remain in effect through the weekend.
While Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery and Lower Bridge, Allen Springs, and Pioneer Ford Campgrounds remain closed, businesses in Camp Sherman and six popular campgrounds along the Metolius River are open.
