Nicky Blumm shines as a state all-star

Nicky Blumm, a three-year starter for the Outlaws baseball team - during which the team compiled a 72-11 record and earned three top-five finishes in the state - represented Sisters High School at the 34th annual 4A All-Star Series for graduating seniors in Roseburg on June 15-16.

Blumm started at second base for the South All-Stars and helped them prevail over the North in the three-game series: 4-5, 15-5, 7-5. He played flawlessly in the field, collected three hits, walked, and scored three runs, giving him at total of 52 runs scored for the year.

As the Outlaws leadoff hitter, Blumm hit an even .500 this year, with a .600 on-base percentage, and won a gold glove for his fielding. He also stole 13 bases despite a damaged ankle and pitched 27 innings, winning 4 games and closing 3 others with a 1.54 earned run average.

The Outlaws finished third in the state, winning their third straight Sky-Em league title in the process, with an overall record of 26-3. Nicky, who made all-league and all-state teams in baseball and soccer, plans to continue playing both sports at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA, where he intends to major in philosophy, politics, and economics.

Nicky had quite a good year in sports as well as academically, and the future is bright for this young man.
