In the words of one observer, the Outlaws Football Camp held last week represents "the rebirth of football" in Sisters. The Outlaws program has struggled in recent years, but a new coach and a renewed enthusiasm for the sport among young players is regarded as a step toward a refreshed and rehabilitated Outlaws football culture.

Young players learned fundamentals from first-class college and NFL coaches.

From the beginning, camp organizer Randy Gardner, who has served as an Outlaws assistant coach for several years, was clear about his goals for the camp.

"My goal is to build the program from the ground up," he said. "My goal is for the kids to leave the camp saying, 'I want to be a football player.'"

The program was capped with a fundraising dinner last Thursday at The Belfry.
