Sisters festival celebrates the arts
Sisters artist Dyrk Godby laid the groundwork for the 13th annual Sisters Folk Festival fundraiser, My Own Two Hands, by creating a stunning representation of Native Americans watching a wagon train traveling on the Oregon Trail burned on cowhide for this year's theme "From Where I Stand." It was chosen as the image for this year's MOTH poster.

Sisters gets set to celebrate the arts
Sisters is set to launch its annual celebration of the arts with a parade, an art stroll, and a fundraising auction.

My Own Two Hands, the annual fundraiser for Sisters Folk Festival's educational outreach programs, begins on April 11, with a parade, art stroll, and performing arts evening at The Belfry.

Quilt installation returns to City Hall
The "Two Rivers, Three Sisters" quilt installation has lived out a Johnny Cash song: It's been everywhere, man. The traveling exhibit has hung all around the Pacific Northwest and as far away as Yokohama, Japan.

Now, it's come home to Sisters.

Local firefighter takes up battle against cancer
As a fireman, Damon Frutos makes his living by saving lives. On Sunday afternoon, he'll exchange his fire hose for an acoustic guitar to help save the lives of children suffering with blood cancer. Frutos will perform at Sisters Coffee Company to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Artist burns image on cowhide
Dyrk Godby is a Sisters artist who in recent years has worked with an unusual medium. He creates art scenes on cowhide, using a sophisticated leather-burning tool to transfer what he sees in his mind onto the hide.

Marinovich to display art at BBR
The paintings and sculptures of local artist Todd Marinovich will be on display at the Lodge Gallery at Black Butte Ranch through the end of April. An artist reception and complimentary wine-tasting will be held on Thursday, March 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Sisters Country artists are invited to submit up to three pieces of their work for the Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) April exhibit in connection with the 11th annual Deschutes County Library Novel Idea program.

Submission day is Sunday, March 30, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sisters Library.

Casino night entertains in Wild West style
The spirit of the Old West was alive and well for the second annual Wild West Casino Night fundraiser at Brand 33 Restaurant on Saturday evening. The event supports scholarship programs for Sisters Park & Recreation District.

Kris Harwell, financial and project coordinator, handed out "funny money," playing cards, and drink tickets as folks moseyed on in dressed in Western attire.

Sisters dancer lights up the stage
Maggie Bidasolo was a shining star among the approximately 700 dancers at the Northwest Regional Starpower Competition at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland last weekend.

The Sisters sophomore took first place in her category for her solo dance, and third in her intermediate division. The achievement earned her a coveted invitation to an intensive week-long dance camp.
