It's an old adage - and a true one: You are what you eat. So much of our health and well-being is tied to our diet. A poor diet can lead to all kinds of health problems, from obesity to insomnia. On the other side of the coin, good nutrition can heal.

Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Sarah Wilder has reaped the benefits of a strong education in nutrition, and she is poised to share them with the Sisters community through her new practice, Healthy. Healed. You. LLC.

"I am a nutritional therapy practitioner," Wilder explained. "My practice is based around personal nutritional counseling. Having the proper diet and proper nutrition allows you to do your daily tasks more effectively and efficiently and allows you to do the fun things you want to do."

Wilder came into nutritional counseling through her degree in exercise science. She interned with Sheree Gillaspie in the summer of 2011 and found her niche.

Her own experience informs her work.

"I've had skin issues for 13 years," she said.

Topical treatment didn't touch her condition - but altering her diet did. She reduced dairy intake.

"That helped clean up my skin pretty dramatically," she said.

She's since cut out gluten and most grains and finds that has boosted her well-being as well.

There's no one-size-fits-all package for nutritional health. Each person is unique.

"The actual journey of health is going to be different for every client," Wilder says.

That journey ideally includes a six-month commitment to a program. Wilder starts with a detailed health history questionnaire that addresses health habits, dietary habits, sleep patterns and personal health goals, whether it be clearing skin or losing weight. Clients keep food journals to help assess what effects different foods and eating patterns are having on them.

Based on that, Wilder helps patients establish new protocols, then helps monitor and assess the effectiveness of those protocols.

Healthy. Healed. You. LLC is located at the Three Sisters Chiropractic Clinic at 270 S. Spruce St. For more information call 541-719-8090 for more information.
