An exquisite, hand-crafted guitar made right here in Sisters is the perfect representation of the varied arts brought together by the Sisters Folk Festival’s My Own Two Hands arts fundraiser.

This year, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual My Own Two Hands fundraiser is a completely online silent auction. Bidding for the virtual auction will open on Friday, May 8 and close on Saturday, May 16, with more than 75 different items available to bid on during that time. No ticket purchase is necessary to participate in the auction, and bids can be placed from the comfort and safety of home via cell phone or internet-connected device.

SFF organizers have announced the event’s raffle item and procedure for entering to win. Only 200 raffle tickets will be sold to win a handcrafted, custom and highly-coveted Preston Thompson guitar.

Raffle tickets are $50 each. The direct link to purchase a raffle ticket for the guitar is https://sff2020.ggo.bid/bidding/package/13028585 and auction registration is required first. The model to be raffled is an OM-shaped guitar with a beautiful Cuban mahogany back/sides paired with an Adirondack spruce top.

Christine Funk, general manager of Thompson Guitars, said, “The size of an OM gives you an immediate voice, deep and resonant with a sustain that shows off the tone of this special mahogany. This is a great sized model for finger-style players and pickers alike. Inlay specialist Simon highlighted his original Regency torch inlay by making it out of a combination of maple and walnut woods, accenting the rope-top purfling and the maple fretboard markers. Luthier Gareth Jenkins hand carved the braces and hand graduated the tops to capture the vintage tone players are looking for. These special boutique guitars are crafted right here in Sisters, Oregon!”

Preston Thompson Guitars is a small company located in Sisters, producing handcrafted acoustic guitars. Founder Preston Thompson started making guitars in the 1980s and studied Golden Era guitars from the 1930s in order to replicate that highly sought-after vintage sound. The playability and craftsmanship of Thompson guitars are highly regarded in the industry, with support from dealers both domestically and internationally.

Thompson put together a team of individuals that bring years of experience and knowledge to the company fostering the reputation Preston established early in his career.

“We are especially proud to be located in this thriving musical community, home of the Sisters Folk Festival and Americana Project,” Funk said.

This year, the My Own Two Hands Spirit of Giving Award was given to Preston Thompson Guitars, for their generosity over the years in providing a custom, handmade guitar to the art auction and fundraiser.

“We are very appreciative of receiving the Spirit of Giving award this year in recognition of our donation of a specially made ‘My Own Two Hands’ guitar for the past five years that is sold during the live auction event,” Funk said. “We are thrilled each time one sells, knowing that the money is used to continue music education for the next generation of players and music lovers. This year, SFF will need all the support it can get with the current circumstances going on in our country and world. Thank you for considering purchasing a limited raffle ticket on this beautiful OM-CMA (Cuban Mahogany/Adirondack Top) highlighted with our original Regency torch made of maple and walnut.”
