Judging from the big crowd, the 2005 Art at the Ranch Show held Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3, was hugely successful.

Held under a large tent near the recreation center, the show attracted over 1,000 visitors.

The show was sponsored by the Black Butte Ranch (BBR) Art Guild and more than 40 artists participated. Arts represented ranged from acrylics to woodworking and included greeting cards, jewelry and stained glass.

Friday’s events included a display of classic cars adjacent to the tent, a silent auction and wine and light snacks.

Al Davidson was the winner of the Art Guild’s raffle quilt.

Sharley Bryce, a part-time resident at BBR who was attending the show, said, “I like this wonderful show. The jewelry, paintings, photos, and beautiful woodworks by such talented artists on display are wonderful to view. Also, I have always been supportive of the Sisters community and the arts.”

One of the big hits of the show, at least for the male contingent, was Lee Kufchak’s SBD-5 model airplane. The plane was a large World War II-era two-seater.

“I was going to fly this before the show but decided against that,” said Kufchak. “Sometimes your plane only makes one flight and I wanted to have it for the show.”

Artist Cindy Robertson from Portland commented, “I was surprised at the large turnout and all the wonderful artists displaying here. I’m also very supportive of the cause — supporting the arts in local schools.”

Besides benefiting arts projects at the local schools, part of the receipts will go toward the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief.

The show also funds scholarships given to outstanding graduating arts students from Sisters High School each year.
