Sisters Little League has seeded the outfields and recreation areas for two new baseball fields. The all-volunteer organization is also starting a fund-raising campaign to finish the fields.

The four-acre ball fields adjacent to the Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation (SOAR) building were hydroseeded September 3.

“We went heavy on the seed here,” said Bill Hoffman of Advanced Irrigation and Hydroseeding who did the work. “We put extra rye grass in the sun and shade mixture because rye generates the quickest. Rye is a good grass for Little League.”

Hydro seeding involves mixing fertilizer, grass seeds, water and wood fiber mulch and pumping and spraying it onto prepared soil.

The new fields should be ready for baseball this spring.

The Kiwanis Club of Sisters provided the initial construction funding for the community ball fields. Additional money is needed to install fences and backstops, pour concrete walks, build dugouts, put up bleachers, and build a storage shed, according to Sisters Little League board member David Banks.

“So far, about $60,000 in money, time and equipment has the ball fields off to a great start. Sisters Little League needs to raise $30,000 to complete the project,” he said.
