I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation and thanks to some of the most amazing people in Sisters.

To the young gentleman who stopped along the way about 30 miles west of Sisters for letting me use his cell phone and tinkering with my car to see if he could get it going; I think he lives in Redmond. What a great listener! His family would be proud of him.

To the wonderful and efficient young gentleman from Davis Towing who came to my rescue and brought me on into town with my car and dog, in tow; who had a long night ahead of him.

To the most amazing woman, who offered to take me in, to her own home, with my dog and who let me stay in the most comfortable of rooms in her newly renovated Palace Hotel; and to her son, who listened and gave me a ride along with my dog in his very new vehicle, to try and find my lost cell phone.

To the very helpful young man, who worked at the Shell station, who referred me to a hotel when it seemed that all inns were full for the night.

To all the guys at the Shell station, but especially to Joe, the mechanic, who went out of his way, very early in the morning to fix my vehicle on a Saturday so that I could get on with my journey to visit my kids in John Day.

There are people in this world who really care, who pay attention, who listen, who God made to make people’s lives a little easier to be on this earth.

My family and I have only lived here two years, but have been warmly greeted and accepted by the Sisters community, as well as Bend and Redmond.

Recently I was diagnosed with brain cancer and thought it best to acknowledge all of the communities’ kindness in this forum. I worked for Hospice of Redmond and Sisters for over one year and am currently employed by St. Charles Medical Center in the Perinatal Home Care Department caring for local babies and pediatric patients. My husband is employed by Mission Linen Supply in Bend. All of our coworkers have been so kind and gracious to our family during this illness.

The kind words, prayers and cards are most appreciated!

My fellow coworkers at SCMC have kept my husband and children fed…which is great help to all of us! Nothing but kindness and caring has been shown by Dr. Tretheway, his nurse, Linda and the rest of their staff, and Dr. Braich and staff at Bend Memorial Clinic.

I have received wonderful care. We are very fortunate to have top-notch care available to us in Central Oregon!

The Sisters community is amazing! Thank you to all for caring about us. My son’s All Star baseball team under the guidance of Coaches Keith Williams and David Carlson and a terrific group of moms including Cynthia Fought have arranged with Figaro’s Pizza for us to have an ongoing account…the children are delighted and much appreciative!

Thank you also to the super Volley Ball Moms who have been most gracious as well as Coach Chris Crosby and Coach Diane Bremer and their families. This is such a wonderful community to live in.

A special thank you to our Panoramic neighbors! Stephanie Finnamore and Nanette Hamilton have also been of great assistance to all of us! And most importantly to the Sisters Middle School and Sisters High School students and staff for supporting our children during this trying time. May God bless all of you.

• Bob Wilson wrote to Sisters Fire Chief Taylor Robertson:

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the invaluable service that your department performed for me on the afternoon of September 8, 2005.

As you know, I suffered a serious heart attack in my home that afternoon and my wife dialed 911 for help. Within minutes, EMT Gary Lovegren and his team were at my side providing the very best in “first responder” medical care. His prompt assessment of the situation and his decision to transport me to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend via helicopter proved crucial to the outcome.

As a result, cardiac intervention procedures were undertaken at the hospital in time to prevent significant permanent damage to my heart. Three days later I was back home with every expectation of resuming a normal life.

Please pass my comments and heartfelt gratitude along to Gary and his team. It is very reassuring to know that the level of competence that they exhibited exists here in Sisters. You can be proud of them and your department can certainly count on our support in the future.

• Phil Gerber, treasurer, expressed his appreciation for all the volunteers who helped make the Sisters Jazz Festival a success.
