"This will be an opportunity to come meet the two finalists in our superintendent search," said School Board Chairman Bill Reed. "We have two strong candidates."
Swisher is currently Director of Apprenticeship and Training for the State of Oregon, according to Reed.
Al Butler will make a little longer trip to Sisters. He has been the school superintendent in Clio, Michigan, with an enrollment of 4,000 students, since 1986. Prior to that Butler was superintendent in Saranac, Michigan, enrollment 1,100, from 1980 to 1986.
"In the reference checking we have done, these two candidates both stood out as being very involved in all aspects of their community, very supportive of staff and parents," said Reed.
He said that both candidates have been in districts where they had to deal with the very tough decisions, including budget constraints that resulted in layoffs of certified and classified staff.
"They have demonstrated the ability to be educational leaders in their communities and put students first in the decision making process," Reed said.
