Gerry Jimerson was dismayed to see the condition of her "adopted" horse camp when she got there on March 24.

Vandals had knocked over signs depicting the history of Sisters Cow Camp in the woods west of town and kicked slats out of an old barn that still stands on the site.

Jimerson and the local chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails (OET) have "adopted" the site, pledging to keep it well maintained and cleaned up. The vandalism came as a nasty blow.

"Now why did someone... need to come in and destroy our signs and the cute little barn that was and is a mark of times gone by," Jimerson said. "I don't know what gets into people to just destroy property that was never theirs to begin with. Makes me sick to think that some one or two or more did this and may live close to Sisters."

Jimerson said she and her fellow OET members check the camp and keep it clean through the summer.
