Chamber hosts nostalgic dance

Mixers and minglers took to dancing at a Chamber event that recalled the first social.

The July Chamber of Commerce "Mix 'n' Mingle" held a touch of nostalgia for some attendees. It was held in nearly the same spot as the very first mix 'n mingle, behind Coldwell Banker Reed Bros. Realty.

That first event was held in either 1993 or 1995 - nobody seems to know the precise date. Both times, food, drink, music and plenty of socializing was the order of the evening.

The social aspect is the most important part of the Mix 'n' Mingles, according to Carole "C.B." Davis. She was on the Chamber board when the first event was touted.

"We just thought it would be fun if we got together and did something social," she said.

Lara Eckstine, a Bank of the Cascades customer service representative, is a people person.

"I love the Mix 'n' Mingles," she said. "It's a chance to see people out of work-time."

Pam and Monte Moss, who own BaaBaara's Wild and Wooly, were first-time guests and are not Chamber members yet, said Pam. They liked being able to do what the event claims, mix and mingle, and meet some other Chamber members.

Cindy and Reno Holler provided background tunes, and some attendees looked ready to turn the event into a street dance. Music isn't a part of every Mix 'n' Mingle, but in the warmth of a summer evening, it was a great touch.
