Annette Ehrenstrom is a pioneer of sorts.

She has moved her successful salon, High Desert Hair Company, out of downtown Sisters and into the new Outlaw Station retail space adjacent to Ray's Food Place.

"I started thinking about it when I heard the post office was leaving, because that was a huge traffic flow for us," Ehrenstrom said of the decision to move out of her long-time Town Square location.

"Ray's is the highest traffic in town."

High Desert Hair is the first establishment to move into the $11 million shopping center. So far, Ehrenstrom is delighted with the move.

"It's crazy out here," she said. "It's been really good. And I haven't even put my sign up yet."

The space is open and spacious, with multiple stations for stylists and spa services.

"It's a little bigger, but it's a lot better laid out," Ehrenstrom said. "We designed it ourselves."

The move does not portend big changes in the business, which will continue offering hair styling and a range of spa services.

"Pretty much everything is remaining the same," Ehrenstrom said. "Eventually I'll be able to add stylists when the economy gets better. I'm going to add a tanning bed."

Ehrenstrom does not expect to be the lone tenant for long. An archery pro shop is going in next door to her, and there are indications of other interest and activity at Outlaw Station.

"There's a lot of interest out here now," Ehrenstrom said.
