Conrad Kiefer is recovering well from surgery that removed most of a brain tumor. Another surgery is pending.

In an inspiring show of support, friends and family of Conrad Kiefer turned out for a benefit party at Hardtails Bar and Grill on Tuesday, June 28, for an evening of gratitude, food and music by Sisters' own Poor Man's Roses, and Animal and the Smokin' Aces.

Kiefer was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and has been recovering well after an operation to remove it two weeks ago. He graduated from Sisters High School in 1999 and works for the City of Sisters. He's married to Cary Kiefer and has two children, Sawyer and Madison.

The affair was a fundraiser to supplement his mounting medical bills and general living expenses due to his being unable to work. A raffle raised nearly $2,500 from items generously donated by many town merchants and citizens.

"All the community came out, the place was packed, and such a show of love and support for a little town with a big heart. Everyone gave without batting an eye. This is how we take care of our own," said Kristie Luff, owner of Papandrea's Pizzeria. "It was pretty emotional and intense."

Justin and Jessica Wolfe are best friends with Kiefer and grew up with him here in Sisters.

"When my husband and I were first planning this, we were hoping to raise maybe $500 for them and get a fraction of the people that were there," said Jessica. "And as the night drew on, we were amazed, it completely exceeded our expectations. We didn't know it was going to be that big. Conrad was speechless and very touched. He's such a good person, and he's very genuine."

On Sunday, June 12, Conrad was cutting wood with a friend and suddenly went into convulsions. Fortunately there was someone with him, and once he went into the doctor's office for a CAT scan they discovered a tumor in his brain. After an operation on Thursday, June 16, the doctors were able to remove 75 percent of the tumor, and in six months he'll go back for another operation, when they'll attempt to remove the rest.

"He's the hardest-working guy I've ever met in my life," said T.W. Scannell. "I was surprised at how good he looked and certainly hope he's going to be

alright."

A second fundraiser will take place Saturday, July 30. It will be a day-long softball tournament followed by an evening barbecue and dancing on the Ski Inn lawns and surrounding alley. For donations or more information contact Shannon Peters at [email protected] or call 541-977-6444.
