Sisters Habitat for Humanity will host its third annual Women Build on May 8-9 in recognition of National Women Build Week.

Sisters Habitat for Humanity is one of more than 300 Habitat affiliates nationwide hosting Women Build projects with the support of Lowe's, Habitat's longtime partner in the event. Women of Sisters will gather to help build homes with the Sandecki and Purkey families. Habitat is asking interested women to sign up for a morning or afternoon shift either Thursday or Friday. There will be a mandatory orientation on Wednesday, May 8, 5:30 p.m. at the Sisters Library.

Construction or home-improvement experience is not necessary; however they strongly encourage that volunteers participate in our clinic "How to Safely Use Hand and Power Tools" on May 3, 10 a.m. to noon at the jobsite on the corner of Greenridge and Tamarack.

Lowe's, a major sponsor of the event nationwide, has awarded $5,000 to help purchase building materials for the event.

Crews will be working on two homes at different stages of building. The walls will be raised on the Purkey home and work will continue on the Sandecki home. The walls for both homes were framed by the Sisters High School Construction Class, under the leadership of Tony Cosby.

Chrys Purkey is thrilled: "I am truly moved to see other women, friends and friends-to-be, give their time and energy to help me achieve my goals. So amazed by this event! So many lovely ladies working together to make awesome things happen!"

Registration is required. To volunteer, donate, and for more information about this event, call Sisters Habitat for Humanity at 541-549-1193 or email, [email protected]
