The City of Sisters has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Sisters Area Historical Society for work on the society’s “Virtual Museum.”

City Manager Eileen Stein announced the grant. The “Virtual Museum” allows people access to information collected by the society on their website at sisterscountryhistoricalsociety.org. The site includes a timeline of local information covering 45 million years plus other historical information.

Other society projects include:

• Offering public educational programs with local and national speakers.

• Working with local schools to develop and present local history programs that involve and inspire an interest in history.

• Collecting oral histories of the area.

• Collecting older pictures of bygone days in the area.

• Tours and walks of local historical areas.

“This grant from Sisters also helps free up our general funds to assist with the history partnership we have established with Sisters High School’s Advanced U.S. History Class, developing the program From Clear Cuts to Art Walks,” said Jean Nave, Executive Director of the Society. “The money will also be used to help pay for original written contributions from local writers.”

For more information contact Jean Nave at 549-8755.
