Folks in Sisters are invited to spend Saturday, September 30 at Blue Lake west of Sisters for the Caldera Arts Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The best part is it's free!

Caldera Arts Day will feature art-making projects for kids and grown-ups with Central Oregon artists Kit Stafford and Karen Ellis, storytelling by writer and naturalist Jim Anderson, guided hikes with Cassie Wieden around the crater rim and through the land impacted by the 2003 B&B Complex Fire, as well as other surprises and activities.

The public is also welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy Caldera.

Caldera's year-round nonprofit arts youth programs are designed to make a difference in the lives of under-served kids from Central Oregon and Portland. Since 1996, Caldera has served more than 5,000 Oregon young people.

Students become involved in the program in sixth grade and remain involved throughout high school, into college and through their paths to the professional world.

Kids with limited resources work with artists at life-changing summer retreats at Blue Lake. Through art, music, dance, creative writing and moving-image arts, kids build self-confidence and get a sense of who they are and who they might become.

During the school year, artists reunite with students in their home schools in Central Oregon and Portland.

For a complete description of Caldera's programs, visit http://www.calderaarts.org.

Directions to the Caldera Blue Lake camp are: West of Black Butte Ranch on Highway 20, take the Suttle Lake/Camp Davidson turnoff (U.S. Forest Service Rd. #2070), continue around the south side of the lake to the far west end, turn left at the Caldera sign.
