Sisters hosts the final Art Stroll of the season

Sisters bid good-bye to summer with the September in Sisters Art Stroll on Saturday, September 23. The bright blue late afternoon sky, still air and warm, penetrating sun welcomed local residents and area travelers; all enjoyed wandering from gallery to gallery and shop to shop to see the latest creations of area photographers, artists and potters, gather decorating ideas and take a quick look at the latest in designer trends.

The event was sponsored by the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce.

Black Butte Ranch resident and Sisters businesswoman Bonnie Howells said, "I have been to several of these events. I like the fact that they feature local artists. I think I will make it to all of the venues, but there is a lot to do. I am not sure we will have time."

Howells was carrying her wish list of things she wanted to see and maybe purchase at the different venues.

Allotting enough time to spend even a few minutes at all of the venues required careful planning and maintenance of a strict schedule. It was easy to become distracted at Leavitt's trying on the latest in winter hats and closely examining the newest creations in silver earrings.

The time it took to choose that perfect fur and leather furnishing accent offered at Village Interiors for that spot in the family room that needs a little sprucing-up could derail the best-laid plans.

The soothing sounds of Doug and Katie Cavanaugh's folk ballads acted like a magnet drawing all who passed-by into Clearwater Gallery. The wildlife art of featured artist Rod Frederick was of special interest, as were the works of the numerous other artists whose creations Clearwater was exhibiting.

The five minute walk to Sisters Art Works was well worth the effort to have a quick glimpse at the stunning images captured by noted local photographer Hadley McCann.

His show was aptly titled, "Hadley Shoots Up Sisters."

Audry Goldsmith, who has only lived in Sisters a little over a year, agreed that it was difficult to take in everything that the Art Stroll offered. Goldsmith said she was trying to make all of the events but was doing it in bits in pieces. She said, "I am integrating slowly, as I want it to last."

Michelle Ruscigno came from Madras "to look at all of the beautiful art work." She said she had been all over. Ruscingo commented that she comes to events that Sisters offers three or four times a year.

Even for those like Ruscigno, who had wandered all through Sisters, the walk to the library was a little off the beaten path. All who made the trudge attested that the effort was well worth the time. Music by Los Pistoleros filled the air with ballads and songs drawing a crowd of many fans. Charley Engel and Jim Cornelius were joined by Jody Creed playing the stand-up base and Lynn Woodward who sang and strummed the mandolin.

The "Faces of Sisters" photography exhibition hosted by the Sisters Area Photo Club and High Desert Gallery could not be missed. Conrad Weiler, Sisters Photo Club President, commented that the club's exhibition will remain at the library throughout the month of September.

The Sisters Photo Club started in 2005 with five members. The club has grown in just a little more than a year to more than 50 members. Anyone interested in photography is welcome to join.

Weiler said, "The dues are $20 a year. The people we have are beginners, intermediate and professionals. So there's a big range, but it's a very friendly group. And you know, they try to help one another."
