Ande Phillips scored a hat trick for the boys' soccer team in their league opener against Junction City (JC) on Tuesday, September 26. The Outlaws crushed JC with a final score of 5-1.

Phillips scored his first goal eight minutes into the game, thanks to an assist from Ryley Newport. Eli Callan scored Sisters' second goal, and then Phillips scored again to give the Outlaws a 3-0 lead at the half.

Ande scored his third goal 65 minutes into the contest. With 11 minutes remaining in the contest, JC scored on a penalty kick to close the Outlaw lead to 4-1.

Matt Bryan capped Sisters' scoring with eight minutes left in the game.

Dominique DeLeone recorded two assists in the game, and Matt Bryan and Newport each had one.

"JC has very athletic kids but just couldn't get anything going offensively," said Coach Rich Hummell. "Our defense stepped up again and denied any scoring opportunity. It was a good first league game."

Three days later Sisters notched their second league victory with a 1-0 win at home over Cottage Grove (CG). A big crowd gathered to encourage and support the Outlaws.

"Cottage Grove came out tough and with a lot of enthusiasm," said Hummell. "Our team countered with brilliant ball movement and passing."

Sisters controlled the ball the first half of the game but couldn't finish and at the half the score was 0-0.

The Outlaws came out stronger in the second half and gave better support to the midfield which opened things up. Sisters had six near misses, and with 10 minutes left in the game, Ryley Newport scored to give the Outlaws a 1-0 lead.

"Ryley hit one from the right outside of the 18-yard box," said Hummell. "The ball had pace and dipped into the side of the net for a beautiful goal. The shot looked like something from the Matrix. I still can't figure out how it went in."

Joey Farrugia and Kanoa James each shared halves as keeper for the shut out.

"Our defense stepped up big and shut down a usually potent CG. I'm very pleased with their level of play," said Hummell.

The Outlaws are currently ranked third in the state and are 2-0 in league. Their overall record is 4-1-1.
