A 50-year-old Sisters man landed in jail Monday night, August 14, after he allegedly caused a ruckus in a local bar, then led a sheriff's deputy on a chase through the streets of Sisters.

According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the man was refused service at The Gallery Restaurant bar, due to his intoxicated condition.

The man reportedly told a deputy later that he had gotten angry when other customers heckled him and he tipped over bar stools and knocked glasses off the bar. Then he allegedly got in his truck and drove away.

A deputy responded to the incident and followed the man's truck north up Elm Street. The driver allegedly turned left quickly onto Main Avenue and hit the gas, attempting to lose the deputy following him.

The chase wound around Sisters' streets, with the driver allegedly sliding into oncoming lanes several times.

The deputy reportedly backed off and watched as the driver blew through stop signs on Oak Street at Cascade and Hood avenues. Then the man drove into a ditch at Oak and Jefferson streets.

According to sheriff's office reports, the deputy approached the stuck vehicle with his gun drawn and ordered the man to get on the ground, telling him he was under arrest. The man allegedly tried to run.

The deputy reportedly knocked him down with a straight leg kick, but the man scrambled up and ran eastward down Jefferson Street.

The chase ended, according to reports, when the man ran headlong into a wire fence and slumped to the ground. The man allegedly tried to crawl toward the deputy, but collapsed on the ground, exhausted. According to sheriff's office reports, it took some moments before the man could muster the energy to place his hands behind his back in order to be handcuffed.

The deputy transported the driver to the Deschutes County Jail, where he reportedly failed field sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol count of .13 percent. He faces multiple charges from the incident.
