Sheriff's deputies will continue to patrol the streets of Sisters through June 30, 2005.

The city of Sisters renewed its contract with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office last week.

The city will pay $296,862 for the next year's service, with a built in 5 percent annual increase. If costs go up more than five percent, the city will pay the additional cost; if costs are less than 5 percent higher, the sheriff's office will credit the city.

The sheriff's office will give the city at least 120 hours of patrol coverage within the city limits each week. The sheriff also agreed to "address specific concerns of (the) city through law enforcement services."

Mayor Steve Wilson brought up one such concern at the Thursday, April 11, city council meeting. Wilson noted that deputies had not written any traffic citations in February and just one in March.

"It appears that we don't have the kind of traffic coverage that we'd like," Wilson said.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office started delivering police services in Sisters three years ago.
