The Sisters boys varsity golf team squared off last week in two matches that pitted them in head-to-head competition with Bend High School.

On Wednesday, April 24, at Langdon Farms in Wilsonville, the Lava Bears got the better of the Outlaws (and everybody else) with a team score of 314.

Sisters took second with 319, followed by host Wilsonville (325), Taft (349), Sweet Home (379), and Junction City (381).

Individually, Jonathan Green of Sisters took first place medalist honors with a score of 75. David Green of Sisters tied for the second best round of the day by shooting 77.

Christian Green fired an 80, Jeremy DeBoard carded an 87, and Zach Sweeney finished with 88.

"It's a tough course, and Bend played very well," Coach Jeff Barton said. "We're pretty evenly matched with them."

The Outlaws got a measure of revenge two days later in the second round of the Central Oregon Classic, held at Eagle Crest.

When the dust had settled, the boys from Sisters had shot 311 as a team. The score not only set the pace for round two, but it catapulted the Outlaws into the lead with a two-round total of 611.

Bend was right behind, with 315 for the day, 621 after day two. Summit carded a 322 (643 total) for the day. Redmond, which led after the first round, faltered with a 338 for the day, putting them in third place overall with 631.

"The weather conditions were terrible," Barton said. "There were gale force winds gusting to over 30 miles per hour, and Redmond just fell apart. It happens to the best of teams."

Mountain View shot 355 (682 total), followed by Madras at 357 (698), La Pine 367 (805 total), and Crook County 370 (686 total).

Jonathan Green is the overall leader with 145, but the story of the day belonged to Jeremy DeBoard, who shot a career-best 74 to lead all scorers in round two.

Coach Barton was pleased and a little surprised by what he saw.

"Jeremy has had to compete just to make the squad, and now he's making the most of the opportunity," he said.

In addition to DeBoard's pace-setting performance, Jonathan Green shot 75 for Sisters, followed by David Green with 80, Christian Green at 82 and Zach Sweeney with 94.

Round three of the Central Oregon Classic will be at Aspen Lakes this Friday, May 3.
