A Ford V-8 van driven by a 67-year-old Sisters woman crashed into the lobby of U.S. Bank on Monday morning, May 13.

The woman told police that she was pulling into a parking space on the east side of the bank when she was overcome with dizziness.

The woman said that the next thing she was aware of was that she had hit the wall.

Deputies at the scene estimated that she was traveling at about eight to 10 miles per hour at impact.

The van burst into the small lobby alcove at the entrance to the bank.

It fit neatly between two roof support pillars and completely missed the adjacent Automatic Teller Machine.

No one inside the bank was hurt. One witness reported that she had just walked past the spot seconds before the van swept by and plowed into the wall.

Bank manager Sandy Brink said the episode was startling.

"I was looking away and there was a big boom and when I looked back everything from the wall had blown in," Brink said.

The entry door to the bank was damaged in the accident.

According to Brink, a contractor was to come in on Monday afternoon to make sufficient repairs to secure the building.

Sisters fire medics examined the driver. She suffered a minor injury to her arm, but was otherwise uninjured.
