The Sisters Elementary School Book Fair with Scholastic Books raised $2,200 for next spring's fourth grade field trip.

Held in the school library during parent conference week, the fair displayed award winning children's books, art kits, software, posters and adult books on cooking and gardening topics. Almost 800 sale items were attractively displayed for friends, parents, students and teachers to make their choices.

Selected books could also be donated to any individual teacher's room at the school. Late polling indicated that Mrs. Powell's fifth grade room was leading in books donated.

Twenty-three parents of fourth graders worked at the fair in two-hour shifts and students helped them during the week-long event.

"These book fairs have been going on for more than 15 years," said librarian Marie Phillips. "This has been one of the best."

Parent co-chairpersons for this year's book fair were Robin Carlson, Lynn Gilmore and Heather Wester.

The students were very glad to help as were fourth grade teachers Diane Jacobsen, Kathy Kemper-Green, Norma Pledger and Clay Warburton.

The money raised helps support the visit to Ft. Vancouver, an Oregon Trail Overnight camping experience, and visits to other Oregon Trail sites next May 28-30.

"This is part of the fourth grade curriculum, studying Oregon History, and the field trip fits right in," said Carlson.
