Bobby Cochran congratulates Zachary Lus

Zachary Lusby didn’t want toys and games for his ninth birthday. He wanted to save the whales and tigers.

“I wanted to make sure the whales and tigers are safe and that they don’t get extinct,” he said.

So the Sisters youth invited guests at his July 31 birthday party to make a donation to Defenders of Wildlife instead of spending money on a present for him.

He raised $510 for the organization and last week he presented a check for that amount to Bobby Cochran, a conservation Program Associate with Defenders of Wildlife at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland.

In a letter to Zachary, Cochran said, “We wanted to thank you for your inspired gift to Defenders of Wildlife. We will be sure to use it to protect our wildlife, land and water. This gift proves that we can all make a difference and, working together, we can change the world.”
