After the success of his self-published book “Fire Mountain, the Eruptions of Mount Saint Helens,” Gary Albertson had the freedom to explore the forests, seashores and deserts of the West, Southwest and Mexico for many years.

During this time, Albert-son developed his eye for landscape photography. He credits this period of his life for the inspiration that evolved into a successful career as scenic photographer and artful framer. Gary currently operates Sisters Gallery and Frame Shop.

Albertson will speak at the inaugural meeting of the Sisters Camera Club.

He will present the topic “Capturing rare moments in shape and form.” Albertson will describe his philosophy of vision, and his approaches to professional filmphotography.

“I have an internal meter which tells me when a shot is right, as well as wrong,” he said.

The meeting will be held at Black Butte Ranch Lodge on Thursday, March 3, at 3 p.m. The event is open to the public and anyone may bring up to two photographs to the meeting for display and evaluation. The images should be 4-by-6 inches or larger.

Albertson works exclusively in film and mainly in large format. He will present some of the reasons for his preference for film over digital.

The Sisters Camera Club is the result of recent efforts by several interested local photographers. The Sisters area presents varied landscapes and areas to explore with many photo opportunities. One purpose of the club is to allow for the exchange of photographic information.

Albertson attributes his rare mixture of photographic ability and eye for framing to a past career as a corporate freelance graphic designer. He will discuss creative framing and the relationship between a photo and its frame.

“The area outside the photograph is important,” he said.
