    Ground will not likely be broken for the new Sisters Elementary School until early spring, but Superintendent Curt Scholl confirmed that the project is moving forward as expected. “Yes, the building schedule is ambitious, but we are sticking with the plan to open in the fall of 2023 at the new site,” he said.     Sisters High School athletes are back in the pool after the 2021 season was stymied by the pandemic. New coach Alex Bick reports that the team is building up its strength once again. In the team’s most recent five-way meet at Stayton, sophomore Ella Bartlett, who is also on the Nordic ski team, had a busy day.     Sisters High School social studies and language arts teacher Gail Greaney received the honor of being named the 2021-22 Civics Teacher of the Year by the Classroom Law Project of Oregon (CLP). Greaney, who has taught at SHS for 16 years, learned of the award in November and was recognized by her peers on December 3 at the annual civics conference for teachers, sponsored by the Classroom Law Project.     Evan Eby placed 18th overall to lead the Outlaws contingent at the Oregon XC Nordic ski race held at Mt. Bachelor on Saturday, January 22. Eby finished the 5-kilometer course in 13:05 in a race that featured skiers from the Northern and Southern and Mt. Hood divisions of the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association (OISRA).     The Oregon Wrestling Classic held January 14-15 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds is one of the most comprehensive tournaments in the state, including over 75 teams from all OSAA classifications.     A half dozen Sisters High School athletes have been given the opportunity to team up with Nordic skiers from the schools in Redmond in order to compete in the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association (OISRA) Northern League for the 2021-22 season. Evan Eby, a senior who transferred from Ridgeview High to Sisters last year, wanted to continue his Nordic ski career, but Sisters had dropped its program.     Gary Thorson, co-coach of Sisters Outlaws wrestling team, provided an update to The Nugget about the team’s progress since holiday break. “The team has continued to make big strides the last two weeks of their season,” he said.     Sisters schools will be competing on a more level playing field next year. Last week, the Oregon Schools Activities Association (OSAA) executive board announced the realignment of the six classifications for high school sports in the state. The process to finalize a new plan had been a work in progress for months. There will still be six classifications for athletics and activities governed by the OSAA from 6A to 1A.
