    Giant puppets navigating the streets of downtown Sisters, a man doling bananas on the deck at Depot Deli, and players entertaining crowds at the Village Green were all part of two days of "Risteria Sisters." The production was put together by Rami El-Aasser, Scott Rognilien and a number of young performers from Sisters on Friday and Saturday, August 20-21.     First it was snow, now it's a suspected virus. As if having to postpone its opening for the first time in its 37-year history due to snow wasn't enough, Big Lake Youth Camp was hit with a suspected virus last week that forced the cancellation of this week's session. Camp director Rob Lang reported that he contacted Linn County health officials last week after about 50 percent of the 248 campers involved in last week's seven- to nine-year-old adventure camp became ill, mostly on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 13-14.     Like the swallows to Capistrano, the Gold Wing motorcycle club returned to Sisters right on schedule for its annual rally June 17-20. Members from chapters throughout Oregon, Idaho, and Washington -- totaling nearly 450 people -- rode into Sisters for the three days of festivities that more than one rider described as "a family reunion."     The 51st Sisters High School Commencement held Friday, June 4, marked the beginning of life after high school for 86 graduates. The ceremony included all the traditional elements - caps and gowns, speeches, farewells, flowers - along with some nontraditional additions, including a video featuring grads from babyhood to adolescence.     Cortney Ellis capped a stellar athletic career at Sisters High School by claiming the state title in the long jump Friday, May 28 at the state 3A Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene. Ellis's winning leap of 17-feet-9-inches was her second-best ever and topped the runner-up by nearly a full foot. Ellis actually won the competition on her first jump, sailing 17-feet-5-inches, according to jumping coach Jim Anderson. "With her first jump, she knew she had it in her tank," he said.     In eight years of hosting the Sisters Kiwanis Golf Scramble no player has come close to hitting a hole-in-one. But Fred Giacomini of Bend brought an end to the drought, and collected $10,000 in the process, in the event held at Eagle Ridge on Saturday. Giacomini, a last-minute substitute for the tournament, aced the 140-yard 15th hole which was earmarked as the prize-winning hole in the 18-hole best ball scramble.   • Fourth graders enjoy history first-hand

    Sixty-seven fourth graders, accompanied by three teachers and 17 chaperones, trekked across much of Oregon last week on the annual "On to Oregon" field trip. Diane Jacobson, fourth grade teacher and coordinator for much of the event, said the 12th annual event was successful and meaningful for the students.     Three Sisters High School students were honored Tuesday, June 9, for their contributions to the AAA Senior High Safety Communications Program. Slater Dixon, Eli Pyke and Brandi Rowat were award winners for their individual video productions promoting safety. Dixon won National Award Merit Certificate for his video on airplane safety.     Peggy Lutz doesn't need special motivation to get out for a walk. But the Kevin Johnson Memorial Scholarship has given her reason to "go the extra mile" and make her second annual 20-mile march from Sisters to Redmond. Last year Lutz raised over $500 toward the fund for Johnson, whom she knew when he was a student at Sisters High. She chose to walk from Sisters High School to Redmond High School since Johnson attended both schools. Lutz, 76, is no stranger to athletic endeavors.     Like a stampede of wild horses, the Sisters Outlaws overwhelmed the Taft Tigers 40-6 in the second round of the state 3A football playoffs. The Outlaws played before a standing-room-only crowd at Sisters High School Saturday afternoon, November 15.     The Outlaws football team claimed its first ever Capital Conference title with a 26-6 victory over Woodburn Friday night, October 31. The win means that both the Outlaws boys and girls put championship teams in state competition. The Lady Outlaws volleyball squad also notched a conference title.     When advertising magnate Dan Wieden bought Blue Lake Resort in the spring of 1996, his vision was to use the camp as a place where young people could come to have new experiences, particularly in the performing and visual arts.     Thirty Sisters-area residents, including 10 high school students, spent 15 days in Europe in June on a tour lead by Sisters High School Spanish teacher Janis Quiros. The group touched down in Rome, where they enjoyed tours of the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Cathedral and got a taste of the magnificent history of Italy's largest city.     Seventy-five seniors began the next step in their lives' journeys at the Sisters High School commencement on Friday, May 30 in the high school gym.     An enthusiastic contingent of Sisters High School students fared well at the annual State VICA competition held Saturday April 12 in Portland.
