The Sisters Outlaws basked in their second league win on Tuesday, February 15, thumping the Cascade Cougars 81-65 and providing a bright spot in a dreary season. The glow was brief; the Outlaws lost to the ninth-ranked Sweet Home Huskies 40-67, on Friday, February 18. But, while it lasted, the Outlaws dominated the Cougars. The Sisters Outlaws took a 20-point drubbing from the North Marion Huskies on Friday, February 11. The Huskies drubbed the Outlaws 80-60. The North Marion loss followed a February 8 a thumping from Capital Conference foe the Central Panthers. There were few bright spots in that 58-71 defeat. The Sisters Outlaws basketball team just missed pulling off an upset against the pumped-up Mollala Indians on Friday, February 4, losing a heartbreaker 60-61. Sisters trailed the Indians by as much as 17 points. Sisters was in a 17-5 hole after the first quarter and was still buried 30-16 going into halftime. Heading into the final frame, Sisters was within 11 at 45-34. Sisters had its lowest output of the season during the first half. The Sisters Outlaws ski team took to the slopes for its third race of the year on Saturday, January 22. Sisters, a member of the Central Oregon Ski League, raced on the Ed's Garden run at Mt. Bachelor. Bend High School captured the team titles in both wo- men's and men's Giant Slalom race. Bend High continued to dominate the slopes as the three top men's racers were from Bend. The Sisters Outlaws lost a tough league game against the North Marion Huskies on Friday, January 14. The Huskies downed the Outlaws 77-72 in overtime. The Sisters Outlaws basketball team notched its first victory of the season on Tuesday, December 14, in a thrilling 76-75 overtime win against the LaPine Hawks. It was the Outlaws' first home game of the season. Football players Dusty Macauley and Jered Coffield returned to the lineup which added a spark for Sisters. The Sisters Outlaw basketball team lost on the road to The Dalles on Tuesday, December 7. The Outlaws, seeking their first victory of the year, fell 78-71 to the Indians. Josh Reznick was Sisters leading scorer with 21 points and Kyle Kinney scored 17 points. Sisters was leading heading into the fourth quarter with a 56-54 margin, but the Indians caught up. The tone of Saturday's championship game was set from the first series of plays, when the Outlaws forced Burns to punt on their first drive after the opening kickoff. Sisters came out of the huddle pumped up on offense, but lost the ball when Josh Orlando bobbled on a rush around the right end. Possession changed several times. With a 35-6 romp over the Burns Highlanders on Saturday, December 18, the Sisters Outlaws became the first 3A football team in 27 years to win the state championship two years in a row. Sisters' defense proved to be the dominating factor. The Outlaws held Burns to 249 yards and one touchdown. Sisters shut down the Burns offense on three "fourth and one" situations. The Sisters Outlaws' football winning streak of 25 games, and the Outlaws' season, almost came to an end on Saturday, December 4, on the turf at Hillsboro stadium. It took overtime and an unlikely hero in front of a crowd estimated at 3,700 for Sisters to prevail against the Scappoose Ind- ians, 33-27. The Outlaws stampeded into their semifinal game against Scappoose after crushing the Henley Hornets, 40-7. With little fanfare, overshadowed by the football team's run at a second, consecutive state title, the Sisters Outlaws basketball team hit the road to Madras on Fri- day, December 3, and Saturday, December 4, for the Bob McKenzie Memorial Tournament. The Sisters Outlaws crushed the Henley Hornets 40-7 on Saturday, November 27, at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, during the second round of the stat 3A playoffs. The Outlaws racked up 436 total offensive yards, while the defense held Henley to 75 yards on the ground and 26 yards through the air. Eli Pyke led the Outlaws' steamroller defense with 13 tackles. The Sisters Outlaws football team defeated a tough Estacada Rangers team 21-12 on Saturday November 20. The Outlaws looked a little jittery after a week out of action and were not able to dominate Estacada the way they have other teams. The Sisters Outlaws finished their regular season with a 46-0 drubbing of the Mollala Indians on Friday, Nov- ember 5. The win solidified Sisters' playoff berth and gave the Outlaws its third straight Capital Conference title. Sisters is undefeated in the past two seasons. Sisters took control of the game quickly. The Sisters Outlaws dominated a rematch of last years' state title game on Friday October 22, thrashing their rival Central 28-6. The Sisters Outlaws slipped past arch rival Central Panthers 33-28 on Saturday, December 12, to claim the 1998 State 3A Football Championship. The last time these two teams met the Outlaws crushed the Panthers, 32-14. It was a far different story this time. The Sisters Outlaws shut out the Scappoose Indians 22-0 on Saturday December 5, earning a shot at the state 3A championship. The Sisters Outlaws football team defeated Marist High School 41-35 on Saturday November, 28, to advance to the state semifinal game. Running back David Martin led the Outlaws to victory, carrying the ball 30 times for 223 yards and three touchdowns. The Sisters Outlaws soundly beat the Central Panthers in a battle for the Capital Conference football title on October 30. The final score was 32 to 14. David Martin led the team to victory, rushing 22 times for 314 yards and scoring three touchdowns on long runs of 45, 63 and 76 yards.
