  • Changes on the way for trail

    John Rahm|Updated Apr 24, 2012

The first of a series of spring-blooming events is unfolding now along the upper reaches of the Peterson Ridge Trail (PRT), with flowering manzanita everywhere. Apart from the conspicuous beauty, the trail is in near-perfect condition with pretty much uninterrupted firm damp soil throughout the 25-mile system, and is getting heavy use from local cyclists and runners, and ever more from Bend, Redmond, and beyond. Central Oregon Magazine's winter edition listed the PRT as runner... Full story

  • Major trail expansion project is adding miles for users

    John Rahm|Updated Sep 23, 2008

The Peterson Ridge Trail is in the midst of a major expansion that will benefit Sisters residents and eventually attract visitors from all over the region. • Finding a trail to the facts on Peterson Ridge

    John Rahm|Updated Feb 5, 2008

Judging from recent letters to the editor, there still seems to be plenty of persistent and even harmful misinformation circulating about the Peterson Ridge Trail system. • Unmanaged growth is the real issue in Sisters

    John Rahm|Updated Aug 2, 2005

Judging from recent letters to the editor, the possibility of having a rational discussion about the future of formula restaurants in Sisters may well have gone up in smoke with the infuriating act of senseless destruction that shook our town three weeks ago. And there may or may not be an initiative on the ballot to address the issue, widely regarded as a legitimate concern, depending on the initiative process itself and the eventual outcome of an ongoing conversation between the various involved parties and the Mayor. If an... Full story

  • Opinion Facing growth... and the couplet

    John Rahm, Guest Columnist|Updated Jul 20, 2004

Editor's note: John Rahm serves on the Sisters City Council. We have a general long-term challenge in Sisters that has once again come to the fore, the same challenge facing most of Central Oregon: namely, managing growth. Projections that have been done and re-done anticipate that growth here will be dramatic, with the population within the ever-expanding city limits growing 400 to 500 percent over the next 20 years, totaling out at 4,500 to 5,000 people. While we can all think of ways we may benefit from growth, possibly... Full story
