Two decades ago, I moved to Central Oregon with the calling in my heart to have a farm. Coming from farmers on my mom’s side, I didn’t want to be a crop-and-livestock-raising farmer — that is some of the hardest work I know. It's been a year since I moved to Sisters from Bend. Reflecting on all that I have learned, I realize how grateful I feel that this small town I now call "home" offers so much. What follows is part of my experience. The inclusiveness of the community: anyone who wants can participate in the parades, the events, in helping and volunteering. The City of Sisters is currently facing a reduction in operational days of its recycling center that was originally designed to be a self-service drop-off center. It is possible that the recycling center will be closed. On July 1, the City of Sisters issued a press release that in part stated, "Effective July 1, 2011, the operational days will be reduced from seven to four days per week.
