    Wednesday, June 7, 2017 was a milestone day in my life. It was the day I officially became a U.S. citizen. Unofficially, I became a U.S. citizen at heart about 10 years ago when I decided that America was where my heart was, and where I wanted to spend the rest of my days.     On October 15, some of my old college friends and I went to cheer on our Oregon State Beavers football team as we do many weekends this time of year. When we got there we were amazed how many people had stayed home. The stands were half empty, including the very expensive seats up under the cover.   • Financial assistance: Bridging the gap

    At Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) we have long had the philosophy that nobody should be denied access to community programs because of an inability to pay. In recent years we have awarded up to $39,000 per year in financial assistance though our scholarship program to allow children from low-income families to participate in programs including preschool, high school sports, youth sports and after-school programs.   • Need for scholarships outpaces funding

    The Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) serves the youth and adults of Sisters Country with recreation and enrichment opportunities. The majority of the programs SPRD runs are for the youth of our community, and many of these children come from low-income families. For this reason SPRD has the Bonnie Malone Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to kids in need. Many local community members, businesses, and organizations generously donate to this fund.
