    The Sisters High School Chamber Choir will join the Sisters Community Chorus in two winter concerts at the Episcopal Church of the transfiguration in Sisters on Sunday, March 14 and Monday, March 15. The High School Choir had a new beginning recently when Forrest Daniel joined the school staff as choral director. Daniel also directs the community chorus.   • Sisters Community Choir to perform

    The Sisters Community Chorus directed by Forrest Daniel will perform the "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi along with a selection of other traditional and contemporary holiday music during two Christmas concerts. The concerts will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Sisters. The concerts will be held on Sunday, December 6, at 2 p.m. and again on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. at 68825 Brooks Camp Road.   • Sisters Library needs more volunteers

    The Sisters Library needs volunteers to staff the branch through its new expanded hours. The library is now open on Mondays and future plans include opening Sundays and some evenings. More hours and attrition, with some volunteers moving away or traveling during the winter season, has created a shortage, according to Sisters librarian Peg Bermel.   • Volunteers pitch in to "Read Aloud"

    Local volunteers turned out to read to Sisters Elementary School students at the Sisters Library as part of National Library week celebrations. The library has participated in the Great American Read Aloud for the past eight years. This year the event was expanded to two days of reading, Wednesday and Thursday April 23-24. The reading event focuses attention on the importance of literacy and emphasizes the enjoyment reading can bring to both reader and listener.   • Concert has "down home" feel

    A relaxed, "down home" atmosphere prevailed at Sisters High School Saturday evening, March 13, when T. Graham Brown led a group of Nashville music personalities, former Starry Nights headliners and local recording artists in the second concert of the 1999 benefit series. It was easy to forget, as a three-year-old danced in the aisle, that the folks on stage were some of the most renowned songwriters and performers currently working in country music.   • Folk festival furnishes foot-stomping fun

    A largely out-of-town crowd enjoyed an eclectic range of music and storytelling at the third annual Sisters Folk Festival September 26-27. The event was on stage Friday and Saturday evenings at Sisters High School and Saturday at two new venues at the Hotel Sisters and the Village Green. A smaller-than-expected but highly enthusiastic crowd turned out Friday night to enjoy a program that moved from cowboy poetry and humor to the blues and on to bluegrass.   • Logo sought for Great Penny Drive

    Michelle Elpi is asking Sisters area residents to create a logo for the ongoing students' Great Penny Drive, which will help fund local charities. The winning design will go on the display container which will ultimately contain one million pennies. The original plan was to have all of the coins collected and on display by rodeo weekend. "Progress has been slow," Elpi said. Right now the container is about four inches deep with pennies. This amounts to about 100,000 pennies or one tenth of the goal. The collection period... Full story
