The Lady Outlaws opened league with a heartbreaking 53-56 loss in overtime at Harrisburg. On Friday they suffered another overtime loss, this time by three at 62-65. In Tuesday’s action, Audrey Corcoran got the Outlaws on the scoreboard first with a baseline three-pointer off a Shae Wyland assist. The Outlaws posted a 49-40 win on the road at Harrisburg in the league opener on Tuesday, January 14. On Friday, they edged out the visiting Creswell Bulldogs, who were ranked No. 4 in 3A entering the game, in a final score of 43-41. The Sisters High School Alpine ski team was a squad to be reckoned with in their first Emerald Ski League race of the season. They put on a show of their exceptional depth and talent in the Wednesday, January 15, Giant Slalom event at Hoodoo Ski Area. The Kelsey's Memorial Race at Mt. Hood Meadows on Sunday, January 5, kicked off the ski race season for the Outlaws. This year marked the seventh annual Kelsey's Memorial Race, which is the largest alpine ski race in the nation. It hosts upwards of 500 racers who participate in this unique state-wide opener with all seven of the Oregon Leagues coming together for a non-scored race. The Outlaws fell 53-56 on the road in a tough contest at Douglas on Tuesday, January 7, but bounced back at home on Saturday with a 53-45 overtime win. On Tuesday, Douglas came out in a 1-3-1 zone and it took the Outlaws a while to adjust. The Lady Outlaws overpowered the Douglas Trojans in a 58-18 win on Tuesday, January 7. At home on Saturday, they suffered a tough 47-65 loss to the Burns Hilanders. The Outlaws were in control throughout in Tuesday’s action against Douglas. The 3A team entered the game 1-10, at the bottom of all 3A teams. The Outlaws hosted their annual Sisters Shootout Thursday through Saturday, January 2-4. Teams in attendance were: 3A Warrenton, Valley Catholic, Banks, Taft, and Sisters and 4A Junction City, Madras, and Henley. Sisters won one of their three games played. The Outlaws Alpine Ski Team is growing, boasting 32 racers and three provisional seventh and eighth grade racers who are set to hit the slopes this season. The 35 racers are ready to showcase their skills in both slalom and giant slalom events. The events will challenge the athletes to navigate courses marked by gates, combining technical precision with speed as they race down the mountain. The Outlaws posted a 68-32 victory at home over the visiting South Umpqua Lancers on Thursday, December 19. Sisters’ early defensive pressure held the Lancers scoreless for the first four minutes of the opening quarter. The Outlaws narrowly edged out the Culver Bulldogs 41-39 at home on Tuesday, December 17, and two days later destroyed the visiting South Umpqua Lancers in a final score of 69-20. The Outlaws got back on the hardwood at home on Saturday, December 28, against the North Marion (NM) Huskies. They made a valiant comeback in the second half but in the end lost by six, 68-74. The teams stayed within two points of each other until the 4:30 mark in the first quarter. From there the Huskies went on a 2-10 run and the Outlaws went down 9-19. Senior Landen Scott and sophomore Audrey Corcoran, both key players for the Outlaws basketball program this year, broke Sisters High School's basketball scoring records, and just within eight days of each other. Scott has started on the varsity squad for three years and last year, as a junior, was selected to the First Team All-League Mountain Valley League. The Outlaws made the trek south to Klamath Falls to take on the Mazama Vikings and the Klamath Union (KU) Pelicans in non-league match-ups on Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14. They defeated the Vikings 72-50 on Friday and then fell 72-64 the following day to KU. In the first quarter against the Vikings on Friday, the score stayed fairly even. The Lady Outlaws posted a convincing 75-49 win on the road at Trinity Lutheran (TL) Tuesday, December 10. Audrey Corcoran took the tip off and opened the scoring with a shot from behind the arc. Corcoran continued to rack up the points due in large part to steals and break-away lay-ups. She was aggressive in the half-court game with driving shots to the rim and pull up jumpers. Seniors Shae Wyland and Ella Davis were named to all-state teams this year. The duo led the squad to a 8-4 league record and 9-5 overall. They also helped their team secure a bye in the first round of state playoffs. The Outlaws ultimately fell to Banks 1-0 in the second round. Wyland was named Second Team All-State Defender. She logged three assists over the season. They return five seniors to the squad, and bring on four newcomers to round out the roster, and hope to earn a berth to the state playoffs. The Outlaws had 12 players earn all-league honors this season, including seniors Kayl Mock, Hudson Beckwith, Landen Scott, Kolbi Cotner, Kale Gardner, and Dawson Roberson. Senior Danny Benson earned second team all league and seniors Cooper Merrill, Andrew Islas, and juniors Nick Palmer and Joseph Derksen were honorable mention.
