Sisters High School teacher and yearbook advisor Diana Prichard and her yearbook staff continue to gain recognition and awards from the Herff Jones Publishing Company. Last year the SHS 2003 yearbook was selected by Herff Jones as a sample book for the southern and western regions of the United States. Only 12 yearbooks were chosen for this honor out of the 1,000 printed at the Logan, Utah plant. Books were chosen for excellence and cutting edge design and use of technology. An energized crowd cheered the Lady Outlaws on to their volleyball win over Cascade on Thursday, October 28. The victory clinched the Capital Conference title for Sisters. Final scores were: 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 25-18 and 18-16. As the Outlaws scored their winning point the team was engulfed by students from the stands. Screams and shouts of victory resounded in the gymnasium as the team and their fans celebrated the special moment and soon chants of "State! State! Champion Scott Little. photo by Peggy Chesser Sisters Senior Scott Little won the 16-17-year- old division of the Central Oregon Junior Golf Association (COJGA) for summer competiton. The finale for this season, the Tournament of Champions, was rained out, so final player standings were based on a combination of rankings of points earned and rankings of season scoring averages. Nepali villagers inspect a stretcher provided by Sisters trekkers. photo courtesy Brad Tisdel Eight Sisters residents recently returned home after spending several weeks in the mountains of Nepal. The group delivered medical supplies and stretchers to several small villages in the Kumbu region. High school teacher Rand Runco, who spearheaded the trip, told The Nugget that all of the stretchers were built for them by Rescue Response Gear of Sisters. The top club professional golfers in the Pacific Northwest will tee off at Aspen Lakes this month in the Pacific Northwest Section Club Professional Championship (PNWCPC). The event will begin Monday, August 23 and conclude Wednesday, August 25. The format for the tournament will be 54 holes, stroke play. The Pacific Northwest Section PGA is one of 41 geographical regions of the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of America and includes Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Northern Idaho and Western Montana. Scott Barton. photo by Rongi Yost Sisters High School golfer Scott Barton won the Boys Division (age 14-15) at the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge held at the Forest Hills Golf Course in Cornelius on Monday and Tuesday, June 21-22. Barton finished with a two-day total of 141 (71-70). The victory assured Barton a trip to the 2004 Callaway Junior World Championships in La Jolla, California. The Outlaw golfers once again proved they are the best in their league by claiming the district title for the sixth consecutive year. The tournament was held at the Mallard Creek Golf Course in Lebanon on Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11. The Sisters boys finished the tournament with a two-day team total of 597, an amazing 63 strokes ahead of runner-up Stayton which finished at 660. The tournament was held at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters on Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11. Krista Pagano recorded a two-day total of 175 to win medalist honors for the second year in a row. Christian Green won medalist honors with a five-under-par 67 to lead the Outlaws to their first place Capital Conference victory on Tuesday, April 20. The match was held at the Mallard Creek Golf Course in Lebanon. According to coach Jeff Barton, Christian's score represents one of the lowest scores in the state so far this season. Kerani Mitchell. photo by Rongi Yost Sisters High School Senior Kerani Mitchell recently won the coveted Sullivan Leadership Award from Seattle University. Each year seven high school seniors are selected to receive the award and competitors represent Oregon, Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana and Washington. The scholarship for Mitchell will cover the cost of tuition and room and board and is renewable for four years if academic and leadership requirements are met. Sisters High School's Concert Band continued its reputation for excellence and top performance by taking first place once again at the Capital Conference Band Festival on Wednesday, April 7. This is the fourth consecutive year the band has taken first place honors. In addition to first place the band earned high enough scores to be invited to the State Music Championships for the fifth consecutive year. Sisters' band will be one of only twelve 3A bands participating at the state level on May 14 at Oregon State University.... Full story
