The Lady Outlaws played on the road against the Burns Highlanders in their first game of the season on Wednesday, November 30. It was a close battle, but in the end Sisters came up short in a final score of 49-44. Sisters started off a bit slow, but then Ila Reid had a couple of nice drives to the basket for points. The Outlaws traveled to Burns on Wednesday, November 30, and lost the contest 62-48. Sisters played a great first quarter, and forced the Highlanders to turn the ball over six times. The Outlaws got good looks at the basket out of their motion offense, shot 57 percent, and held a 17-11 lead at the end of the period. The Outlaws boys basketball squad finished last year’s season 14-14 (8-4 in league). They took third place in the tough Mountain Valley Conference, won a first-round state playoff road game, and battled the No.-1 ranked team in 3A in the round of 16, coming up just one game short from the final eight tournament. They return six experienced players from that team who will provide experience and leadership to the squad. The Lady Outlaws currently have 19 girls on their roster —three seniors, six juniors, one sophomore, and nine freshmen — which is enough to put both a JV and a varsity squad on the court. The strong turnout of freshmen players should help make a solid JV squad, which bodes well for the future of the program. Jenna Lake (senior) is a returning varsity starter. Marley Holden was a unanimous vote for Player of the Year for the Special District 3 in girls soccer; the first time a Sisters player has received that honor since 2010. The four-year starter for the Lady Outlaws was also a First-Team pick. She led the team in goals for the second consecutive year, this season with 20 goals. She also recorded 10 assists. The Outlaws boys soccer squad had four players named to all-league teams, including senior Vince Christian, who was not only a first-team pick, but also selected as Player of the Year. The Lady Outlaws' stellar season came to end in a 4-1 loss to the No. 1 Valley Catholic Valiants (VC) on Tuesday, November 7. Sisters didn't lose a single game in league play, won the quarterfinal match and played hard against a top-notch, VC squad in the semifinals. Sisters’ football squad had eight players selected to all-league teams Six Outlaws were first- team selections, including Justin deSmet, Jayden Vogt, Kalvin Parker, Ethan Eby, and Reid Woodson. DeSmet (senior) was named Player of the Year at defensive back, and also was a first-team selection at the defensive back and running back positions. The Lady Outlaws volleyball team had seven of their players selected to all-league teams, including Gracie Vohs, who was named Player of the Year and was a first-team pick. In addition, she was voted First Team All Tournament at the State Tournament, and was named Player of the Game in the championship match. The 21 players on the JV football squad finished their season at 8-1, their only loss the first game of the season. Jim Gurney and Jordon Wilkins teamed up to coach the Outlaws, Gurney primarily as a defensive coach, and Wilkins as the offensive coach. The turf field and nerves played a factor as both teams took a bit of time to settle into the game. Delphian was a counter-attack type of team and had two very fast and dangerous strikers. The boys JV soccer squad improved tremendously over the course of the season and finished with a 3-3 record. The squad saw increased numbers and carried 20 players on their roster. That growth allowed the team to play their first full season of 11 vs. 11 in all of their games this year, something that hasn’t happened the last five years. As the Outlaws boys soccer season came to an end, Coach Jeff Husmann honored his senior players, not only for their play but for building a strong program. Vincent Christian and Austin Dean were cocaptains this year and both players are four-year starters. Christian is one of the Outlaws’ most dedicated players. The Lady Outlaws swept Vale at home in Sisters on Saturday, October 28, in the second round of the state playoffs, with scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-13. Sisters entered the match as the No.1 team in the state, and the Vikings were ranked at No. 17. In their final tournament against all 5A schools they defeated Bend High, Mountain View, Ridgeview, Crook County, and Redmond, with their only loss a close match against Caldera.
