The Lady Outlaws defeated Elmira at home in three straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-6, and 25-21, on Tuesday, October 1. At home two days later they lost in four sets to top ranked Pleasant Hill (PH) with scores of 25-17, 26-28, 12-25, 15-25. The Outlaws suffered a disappointing 28-19 loss at Cottage Grove (CG) on Thursday, October 3. The contest started off great with Dawson Roberson getting an interception in the end zone which ended CG’s opening drive. Sisters took possession on the Lions’ 20-yard line. Hunter Bronson hit Hudson Beckwith on a nice pass for a 79-yard touchdown (TD) run. The Outlaws notched a big 49-7 win in their league opener on the road at Elmira on Friday, September 20. Sisters opened with a massive 17 play drive to start the contest. The drive took almost 10 minutes off the first quarter and was capped by a Kale Mock three yard run off the right side. The Lady Outlaws Soccer Team posted a 6-1 victory at home against the Elmira Falcons on Tuesday, September 24. Ella Davis got the Outlaws’ scoring spree started 23 minutes into the contest. Mia Rosas sent a through ball from the Outlaws past the Falcon defense and found Davis, who finished it right past the keeper for the score. The Outlaws’ team started off the week on Tuesday with a three-game sweep over the visiting Creswell Bulldogs (No. 10), with scores of 27-25, 25-23, and 25-22. Two days later they defeated the La Pine Hawks in three close sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-20). Tuesday’s match against Creswell wasn’t easy. The Sisters Outlaws football team beat the La Pine Hawks 42-0 on Friday, September 27. Prior to the contest Friday night the Outlaws honored local veterans on their annual Veterans/Military appreciation night. Veterans were escorted to center field by the La Pine ROTC honor guard. After the National Anthem both teams lined up and filed into center field to shake the veterans’ hands and thank them for their service. The Outlaws boys soccer team fell 4-0 at Creswell on Monday, September 23, but came back three days later and beat East Linn Christian 3-1. Sisters knew the Creswell Bulldogs would be motivated to beat them, as they were the team the Outlaws played for the league championship last year in a come-from-behind 5-4 win. The Outlaws got off to a sluggish start after their long bus ride to Corbett last week. The Cardinals took advantage and jumped to an early lead, scoring three times within the first seven minutes of the contest. Coach Jeff Husmann said, “Our back line, and the whole team, was flat-footed and groggy. The Lady Outlaws soccer squad defeated Siuslaw Monday, September 16, on the road in a final score of 2-0. Devon Stevens got the Outlaws on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute of the game. A throw-in found Melia Jenkins in the middle of the field, and Jenkins passed the ball over to Stevens, who had made a run down the wing, and one-touched it for a goal over the keeper’s head into the back of the net. The Outlaws soccer squad took down Western Christian (WC) at home on Saturday, September 14. Sisters players came out loose and focused from the opening whistle. They played well as a cohesive unit, and the early control of the midfield and the involvement from the defense led to the Outlaws first goal. The Lady Outlaws soccer squad fell 3-1 at Creswell on Monday, September 9, but at home two days later they edged out Pleasant Hill 1-0. On Monday, Creswell scored off a corner kick in the first half of Monday’s match-up and the Outlaws entered the half down 0-1. Just two minutes into the second half Tallis Grummer won the ball in the midfield and played the ball to Zoee Bafford. The Lady Outlaws hosted 25 teams in their annual Sisters Tournament. Twenty-four teams were from Oregon and Melba High School joined the fray from Idaho. Valley Catholic defeated Crook County in the championship match, and Cascade and Melba tied for third place. The Outlaws outscored the visiting Taft Tigers 41-22 at home at Reed Stadium in their first home game of the season. Sisters dominated the first half, scoring 28 points on 279 yards of total offense with a balanced attack of 145 yards rushing and 134 yards passing, compared to Taft’s six points on 149 yards total offense. Makena Zorza was hired three weeks ago as the girls assistant soccer coach, but after long-time coach Brian Holden resigned, she took over the head coaching position. Zorza graduated from Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS) in 2018 and played soccer all four years, three years on their varsity squad as a forward and outside midfielder. While at Hood River the team won their conference every year. She went on and attended the University of Idaho where she played Club Soccer.... Full story
The Outlaws soccer squad lost 0-5 at home against Madras on Thursday, September 5. The match was scheduled to be played in Madras, but due to smoky conditions was moved to Sisters. The White Buffs are a disciplined and well-coached team and the Outlaws knew they were in for a battle. One of Sister’s tactical goals was to establish themselves in the midfield, and junior Nick Palmer is a big part of that. The Outlaws fell 21-25, 15-15, 25-22, and 26-28 in a tough match at Caldera on Tuesday, September 3. A day later they hosted 3A Burns and 2A Trinity Lutheran. Sisters fell in three straight sets 20-25, 11-25, and 17-25. They managed to squeak out a five game win against Trinity with scores of 25-20,17-25, 25-29, 20-25, and 15-13. The Outlaws football team returns eight starters on both sides of the ball, including seniors Hudson Beckwith, Kolbi Cotner, and Garrett Sager, and juniors Kalvin Parker, Jozua Miller, and Ethan Eby. The boys soccer squad defeated the Delphian Dragons 3-1 on the road on Friday, August 30. The Dragons were the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Delphian is a private school with skilled club players, and Sisters came out ready for a tough match. Danny Benson scored Sisters first goal early in the first half to put the Outlaws on top 1-0. The boys’ soccer team has proven they are a squad to be reckoned with. The Outlaws have established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the league, winning league titles the past two years. Josh Kreunen was recently hired as the new head volleyball coach, and has only had time with the Lady Outlaws during daily doubles. After just one short week he’s had to divide over 36 girls into three teams, and get ready for preseason play. Several seniors are back for their final year, including Holly Davis, Jordyn Monaghan, Kathryn Scholl, Brooklyn Cooper, Kristen Elbek, and Sophie Rush. Davis is a steady force as the Outlaws’ setter. Josh Kreunen was recently hired as the new head girls volleyball coach. He brings with him a wealth of personal and coaching experience. Kreunen started playing club volleyball when he was a sophomore in high school and played through high school, college, and beyond. Juhree Kizziar, who has competed in the No. 1 varsity singles spot all four years at Sisters High School (SHS), has committed to play tennis for the George Fox University Bruins next year. Kizziar has lived in Sisters her whole life, but didn't pick up a tennis racket until seventh grade. Dominic Pulver was the lone player from the boys’ tennis squad to make it to the state championships held at Oregon State University Thursday through Saturday, May 23rd through the 25th. Seventeen teams were in attendance and, as the lone Outlaw player, Pulver took them to a tie with three other schools, Crook County, Nyssa, and Vale, for a fifth place finish.
