The Lady Outlaws competed against tough teams at the Mt. View Invitational held Thursday and Friday, August 26-27. Due to a lack of officials in Central Oregon, the tournament looked a bit different this year. Instead of pool play followed by bracket play, teams just competed in pool play, and each of those games counted. Sisters started off with a win over Caldera in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21. The Outlaws football program currently has 40 players on the roster, up 10 from last season. With the added numbers the Outlaws will have a full nine-game JV schedule. Coach Clayton Hall says that having a JV team will be huge for the development of the athletes and the program. Sisters Lady Outlaws return six players from last year’s squad that made it to the State Championship game. They came up just short of their goal last year, but are determined to put in the work needed to make another State appearance, and hopefully compete for the big prize. The six experienced, veteran players include seniors Hannah Fendall and Anna Landon, and juniors Gracie Vohs, Gracelyn Myhre, Bailey Robertson, and Mia Monaghan. The Outlaws boys soccer squad has made steady improvements, and their collective skill and “soccer IQ” has grown tremendously, thanks to Coach Jeff Husmann, who has coached them the past four years. Husmann noted that with the improvement the team’s expectations for success has grown and the boys are up for the challenge. The boys golf squad had only one player out for the sport this season, sophomore Devin Coverdale, who stuck with the sport through cancelled matches, and courses covered with snow that made the game unplayable. Coverdale played at Tokatee in early March under favorable weather conditions, and then took a week off for spring break. Glaze Meadow at Black Butte Ranch was covered in snow the first three weeks of April, which prevented any practice, and the tournament at Aubrey Glen was also cancelled due to snow on the course.... Juhree Kizziar was the lone Outlaw from the girls tennis squad who competed at the 4A State Tennis Championships Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21 at Oregon State University. Kizziar defeated sophomore Allen Herrera from Ontario 6-1, 6-1, in the first round of 16 on Friday. In the quarterfinals she fell 1-6, 1-6 to senior Anna Semier of Catlin Gable, and was eliminated from the tournament. The boys lacrosse squad finished their season with a game against Ida B. Wells at the Cascade Cup held in Portland on Thursday, May 19. The Cascade Cup is a second-tier playoff series for the 16 highest ranking teams that don’t make the championship playoffs. Sisters entered the Cascade Cup as the 11th seed and a 4-7 record, while Ida B. Wells was the sixth seed with a 4-11 record, which was based on a higher strength of schedule. The Lady Outlaws took third place at the District Tennis Tournament, which was held on Monday, May 9 in Madras, and then on Thursday and Friday, May 12-13 at the Salem Swim and Tennis Club. Sisters started out well on the first round of Districts on Monday, and advanced 10 players into the second day of play. In singles play, Juhree Kizziar advanced on a bye. The young Outlaws tennis squad got a taste of District Tournament play, which began on Wednesday, May 11, at Estacada High School. All four players were eliminated on day one. Jaxon Barry, the lone senior and most experienced player on the team, lost his first-round match to Riley Adair of Madras 3-6, 2-6. He went into consolation and defeated Jesus Leon of Woodburn in an 8-1 pro set. Barry was then eliminated in the next round of consolation in a 2-8 pro set loss to Spencer Dirks from Stayton. The Outlaws lost their final two league games this past week: a heartbreaking 4-7 loss to Ridgeview on Tuesday, May 10, and at home three days later a 0-15 loss to Summit, the No. 6 ranked team in the state. The game against the Storm was a makeup game from earlier in the season that had to be postponed due to illness on the Outlaws’ squad. The Lady Outlaws started their week with a 4-4 tie against Woodburn on Tuesday, May 3, and in their final match of league play a day later fell 1-7 at Philomath against the Lady Warriors. In Tuesday’s match, Juhree Kizziar (No. 1 singles) continued her dominance on the court and recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory. The Outlaws packed in four games over the two-day SALI tourney, with all games in a 20-minute running halves format. On Saturday, the Outlaws played three games, the first a 13-3 win over Ridgeview at 8 a.m. Sisters was in control of the contest from start to finish and three players, Bodie Schar, Kyle Pilarski, and Adam Maddox-Castle all scored hat tricks (three goals). The Lady Outlaws played through intermittent rain and high winds on Saturday, and snowy windy conditions on Sunday, to make it to the championship game of Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational (SALI). The Lady Outlaws tennis team lost both their matches this past week; a 3-5 loss to Stayton on Tuesday, April 26, and a 1-7 loss to Molalla the following day. In Tuesday’s match against Stayton, the weather was chilly, temperatures hovering at 40 degrees. The Outlaws lacrosse team took on Bend High School at Hal Puddy Field on Tuesday, April 19, and were crushed in a final score of 17-1. On Friday, Sisters fell 11-6 at West Albany. The boys tennis team has hit the midway mark through the season, and the four young players that have dedicated themselves to learning the sport are getting better with each match played. Sisters has played in seven matches, and the focus has been to get players as much experience as possible. The Lady Outlaws tennis team posted a 5-3 win over Madras at home on Thursday, April 14, and improved their conference record to 2-1, and are 5-4 overall. It was a cold day with intermittent snow flurries, which made for difficult play. The Outlaws continued to dominate play this past week with a 12-3 win at home on Friday, April 15, over Corvallis. Earlier in the week the Outlaws had to cancel their game at Sprague in Salem due to snowy roads over the pass, and then Saturday’s game against West Salem in Sisters was cancelled due to snow on the field. The Lady Outlaws lost 3-5 in a hard-fought match at home against Cascade on Thursday, April 7, but a day later they rebounded with a 7-1 win at home against Henley. The Outlaws boys lacrosse team buckled down, took care of business, and crushed Hillsboro 12-3 at home on Saturday, April 9. In the first quarter Eli Johnson got the Outlaws on the scoreboard early with two goals. Kyle Pilarski and Max Palanuk also scored to give Sisters a 4-1 lead at the close of the period. The Outlaws lacrosse squad were defeated 1-14 by Mountain View on Wednesday, March 30, but two days later they bounced back with a 12-7 win at Century. Sisters came out strong in their game against Century on Friday, and were up 5-2 at the close of the first quarter. One highlight of the quarter was a goal from Kyle Pilarski, a long-pole player who primarily plays on the defensive end of the field. The Outlaws baseball team had a good performance in their first outing of the season with a 5-4 win at La Pine on Tuesday, March 15. They suffered a tough 1-2 loss at home against Cottage Grove on Friday. In Tuesday’s action the Outlaws came out with a lot of energy and scored three runs in the first inning.
