    The Lady Outlaws started their week with a 48-35 road win at Newport on Tuesday, May 25. On Wednesday they suffered a tough 25-61 loss at home to Philomath and on Friday fell 28-37 at Cascade in a non-league matchup. On Tuesday against the Cubs, Sisters sisters, Emma and Maggie Lutz, had a great game, and combined for 19 points in the contest.     The Outlaws had a rough week and dropped three straight games: a 36-43 loss at home to Newport on Tuesday, May 25, and a day later a 28-53 road loss at Philomath. They fell 34-51 at home to Cascade on Friday in a non-league contest. On Tuesday the Outlaws held the lead over Newport until the final quarter when the Cubs hot scoring pushed them ahead and got them the win.     The Outlaws return four players with varsity experience to their squad this season, including seniors Nate Weber and Connor Linn, and juniors Max Palanuk and Ricky Huffman.     The boys basketball squad lost 59-60 to a tough Summit JV team on Monday, May 17, and four days later were defeated 31-50 at home by the Sweet Home Huskies. Monday the Outlaws faced a big, athletic Summit squad, who also had some very good shooters. It was a tight contest and the game went back-and-forth the whole way.     The Lady Outlaws came out on top in a final score of 45-42 in a very close game against Summit JV on Monday, May 17. Two days later they lost 22-54 on the road against Mountain View, and at home on Friday they fell 25-40 to Sweet Home.     The girls varsity squad returns juniors Payden Petterson and Emma Lutz, and sophomore Josie Patton, the three girls on the roster with the most varsity experience. Petterson has been a varsity player all three years, and will play post for the Outlaws. Coach Carl Click said, “Payden is a good shooter, but is basically a solid, intelligent basketball player.   • Kizziar makes girls tennis quarterfinals

    Freshman Juhree Kizziar made a good showing at the girls state tennis tournament held in Roseburg on May 17, and made it to the quarterfinals before she dropped her last match. Kizziar defeated senior Allya Sierra 6-2, 6-1, in her first-round competition. Kizziar started a bit slow and dropped the first two games, but came back strong and won six games in a row to win the first set.     Sisters girls lacrosse squad fell 16-19 to Summit on Thursday, May 20, in their final game of the season. Teams kept the score close and at the half the score was tied 10-10. The Storm outshot the Outlaws 9-6 in the second half and recorded the win. Several players scored multiple goals for the Outlaws. Mary Root led the scoring effort with five, Pearl Gregg knocked in four, and Reese Harrell and Emma Lutz each pitched in three. Tatum Cramer also scored a goal for the team.     Nate Weber wrapped up his senior year with a fourth-place finish at the 4A state tennis tournament held Monday, May 17, at the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center, and Tuesday at Marist High School. Weber (No. 4 seed) faced Jonathan Swenson of Woodburn in the first round. Weber lost the first set 2-6, but buckled down and came back with a 6-1, 6-1, win to claim the victory.     Junior Evan Eby shot his best round of the year at the 4A boys state golf tournament held on Tuesday, May 18, at the Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis. Eby carded a 44 on the front nine and a 40 on the back for an 84 finish. Evan tied for 21st place out of 60 participants. He hit his drives well and limited his mistakes on the back.   • Outlaws compete in district golf tournament

    Spring sports have all experienced a truncated season, but for the boys golf squad it was even shorter. They were only able to compete in two matches before the district tournament. District was just a one-day event held at the Tokatee Golf Course. Sisters finished fourth out of six with a team score of 454.     Sisters boys lacrosse squad wrapped up their season with a 10-7 victory at Burns on Wednesday, May 12. The Highlanders have a tough time getting teams to come to their home turf due to their remote location, but Coach Paul Patton told The Nugget the Outlaws had a nice drive over and it was nice to see their home fans turn out to watch the boys play.     The Lady Outlaws participated in the district tennis tournament held Monday, May 10, in Madras, and Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14, at Black Butte Ranch. On Monday, Juhree Kizziar (freshman) defeated Jabins Samano of North Marion, 6-0, 6-0.     The Outlaws continued their winning streak with three more victories last week. They started with a 10-6 win at Cascade on Monday, and at home on Wednesday they defeated Cascade 12-9.     Nate Weber earned a second-place finish in the singles event of the OSAA Special District No. 2 Tennis Tournament held at Black Butte Ranch, Monday, May 10, and Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14.     The Outlaws recorded wins in all three of their games last week: a 17-9 road win at Woodburn on Monday, May 3; a 5-0 shut out at Sweet Home on Wednesday; and a 8-4 win at home against Sweet Home on Thursday.     The Outlaws defeated Sprague 8-5 at home on Friday, April 30, and recorded their first win of the season. Teams played fairly even at the start of the contest and at the close of the first quarter it was tied up 1-1.     Garrett Vohs pitched a no-hitter in Sisters’ win at home against Woodburn on Thursday, April 29. Garrett finished the game with 11 strikeouts, and also had one hit and one RBI in the contest that ended with the Outlaws on top 10-0.     Julia Boris was recently hired as the new head coach for the girls lacrosse program, and she is excited about the opportunity and the season ahead. Boris started to play lacrosse when she was four years old and played through high school. She was a center midfielder on the varsity squad all four years. Julia graduated in 2018 from Rising Sun High School, a small town in Maryland about one hour outside of Baltimore. From there she played on a travel team for two years all over... Full story
