The Outlaws lost 36-19 on the road at Siuslaw on Friday, March 25. Sisters’ defense had a good start and stopped Siuslaw on a fourth-down attempt to gain possession of the ball in Viking territory. Sisters’ volleyball squad matched up against Sweet Home in Sisters on Wednesday, March 17. Both teams entered the contest undefeated. The Outlaws played their best match of the season to post the win with scores of 25-19, 25-19, 21-23, and 25-20, and stay at the top of the heap. The Outlaws boys soccer team has had a strong month, posting wins before falling to a tough Stayton Eagles squad in a final score of 0-8 at Stayton on Thursday, March 18. The Eagles have a strong, balanced, and well-coached team, and they controlled the ball from the opening whistle. Outlaws goalie Nathaniel Alvarez was busy much of the night, and put out great effort. Stayton had 21 shots on goal to the Outlaws’ six. The Outlaws went from a big win last week against Harrisburg to a hard fall at Sweet Home this week, in a final score of 38-6 on Friday, March 19. Sweet Home boasts a big offensive line, including Tanner Waldrop, who is 6'5" and 320 pounds. The Huskies offensive line were easily able to push the Outlaws defensive line around. Sweet Home senior quarterback Aiden Tyler is athletic and accurate on his throws, and senior running back Cade Gaskey (6'1" 215 pounds) is a big, powerful runner. Both these players were offensive... The Outlaws fell by a score of 0-4 at home against 6A Summit on Tuesday, March 16, but came back strong two days later to post a 4-0 shutout at home against Stayton. The Lady Outlaws soccer squad are posting wins: a 5-2 victory over 6A Mountain View at home on Tuesday, March 9, and two days later a 3-0 shutout on the road at Cascade. Against Mountain View, Hollie Lewis scored early to give the Outlaws a 1-0 edge. Anya Shockley had a great shot that went off the post and Lewis was there for the finish. The Lady Outlaws packed in four matches last week and won three of them in sweeps. On Monday, March 9, Sisters defeated Mountain View on the road with scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-17. Two days later the Outlaws traveled to Crook County and defeated the Cowgirls 25-22, 25-12, 25-22. On Saturday, Sisters played two matches held at Ridgeview High School. The Outlaws were unstoppable in their 42-6 victory at home over Harrisburg on Friday, March 13. Sisters’ offensive line dominated as they created holes for the runners and time for quarterback Griffin Gardner to throw. That made the Outlaws a dangerous threat the entire game. The Lady Outlaws have 18 players on their roster this year and the girls are excited about the season ahead. Emilie Turpen returns as the lone senior on the squad. She’s a hardworking, dedicated, veteran player who will lend leadership to the team and keep them together as a cohesive unit. The Sisters Outlaws fell 20-6 to the Pleasant Hill Billies at home on Friday, March 5. Both teams had sloppy, sluggish starts, but the Billies found their groove and posted the victory. In the first quarter, Sisters marched down the field with nice runs from Griffin Gardner and Hunter Spor, but stalled after a delay-of-game penalty and an incomplete pass in the end zone. The Outlaws boys soccer team kicked off their season firing on all cylinders, and crushed Crook County 8-0 in a well-balanced road win. Teams had just two weeks to prepare for the abbreviated season, and both were excited to finally be able to compete. After more than a year, the Lady Outlaws finally got back on the court. They travelled to Cascade on Thursday, March 4, and defeated the Cougars 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, and 25-15. Sisters had to work out some nerves and jitters in the first match, but looked to their veteran leaders who brought consistency and calmness to the court. The Outlaws football squad is excited to be back on the field again. Coach Gary Thorson told The Nugget that the Outlaws should be improved up front on both sides of the ball. Although numbers are down, Thorson is excited about the new additions to the team and the season ahead. The Outlaws lacrosse program had a very high number of boys turn out for the sport this season — more than they’ve seen in four years, which means that for the first time in several years they will be able to field both a varsity and JV squad. The boys varsity tennis squad returns several players this year, and taking charge at the No. 1 singles spot will be junior Nate Weber. Weber qualified for State last year and won a consolation match to make it to the second day of competition. Prior to the State Tournament, Weber only lost one singles match, and each one was to a player who advanced to State at their classification. The Outlaws ski teams are headed to State competition for the first time in many years. The Sisters ski teams raced in the OSAA league finals at Mt. Bachelor on Friday and Saturday, February 28-29. Friday was the league finals in the giant slalom and Saturday’s finals were the slalom race. The Sisters High School boys varsity ski team placed second in a giant slalom race at Hoodoo on Saturday, February 22. It was sunny and calm, and snow conditions were hard and fast, which made for one of the best races of the season. The steep hill at Hoodoo and the course set-up provided a challenge for racers. The Outlaws dropped their game at Stayton on Tuesday, February 18, in a final score of 32-44, and at home against Sweet Home on Friday in their last league game of the season they lost 20-45. In Tuesday’s game at Stayton, the Outlaws played solid defense throughout most of the game and held Stayton to just 44 total points. The young Lady Outlaws squad battled hard throughout league, and in their final contest at home against Sweet Home, their hard work, grit, and determination paid off. Sisters snapped their losing streak with a 45-39 win over the Huskies. The boys and girls basketball squads have struggled on the hardwood all season against their league foes, and both squads have yet to post a conference win. The varsity boys squad dropped their road game at Woodburn on Tuesday, February 11, in a final score of 26-55, and at home on Friday they fell 18-40 to top-ranked Philomath. The Lady Outlaws ski team raced a girls-only giant slalom (GS) at Willamette Pass Ski Resort on Saturday, February 15. Surface conditions on the course were frozen, but visibility was good and the winds were calm.
