The Outlaws tennis team had two players, sophomores Dominic Pulver and Jack Murray, compete in the final two-day event of the Special District 4 Tournament, held at Prineville High School May 17–18. Pulver earned a fourth-place finish and will advance to the State Championship to be held in Corvallis Thursday through Saturday, May 23–25. The Lady Outlaws have retained the tennis crown. The girls tennis team turned in fabulous performances in the final two-day Special District 4 Tournament event held at Prineville High School on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, and were crowned the District Champs for the second consecutive year. The Outlaws’ top two singles players won their matches against the White Buffs at Madras on Wednesday, April 24. Dominic Pulver (No. 1) entered the match with a lame shoulder that he injured at the Caldera Tournament the previous weekend, but he was able to grind his way though and came out on top 6-2, 7-6, against Fernando Saldana. The girls tennis team notched a 5-3 win over the White Buffs at home on Wednesday, April 24, in very cold and windy conditions. The win moved them to 4-0 in conference play. They are 12-5 overall with their only losses to much larger schools; a loss to powerhouse Jesuit, two losses to Summit, and a loss to Redmond and Ridgeview. The boys tennis squad started their week with a 4-4 tie at Madras against the White Buffs on Tuesday, April 9. Two days later they fell 2-6 at Prineville. In Tuesday’s match against the White Buffs, the Outlaws swept in all four singles spots and the White Buffs won every match in doubles play. The Lady Outlaws started their week with a 5-3 win over the Lady Buffs at Madras on Tuesday, April 9, and two days later Sisters finished in a 4-4 tie at home against Crook County. In Monday’s match at home the Outlaws fought the wind the entire day and in the end fell 3-5 to The Dalles. Coach Vince Grace was out of town and girls Coach Bruce Fenn stepped in as coach. The Lady Outlaws defeated The Dalles 6-2 at home on Tuesday, April 2, on a sunny, but very windy day. Despite the fact the Outlaws were without their No. 1 singles player, Juhree Kizziar, the singles players were dominant and won three of the four matches. The Lady Outlaws tennis squad took down Bend High 5-3 in their opening match of the season on Tuesday, March 12, and two days later beat Mt. View 7-1. In Tuesday’s match the Outlaws won all of their singles matches in straights sets. Juhree Kizziar (No. 1 singles) blanked Kyla Guerrero 6-0, 6-0. The boys’ tennis squad lost both their opening matches this past week, a 0-8 loss at home against Crook County (CC) on Monday, March 11, and two days later a 1-8 loss at Mt. View. On Monday, the Outlaws played in cool weather on damp courts at home against CC. For many of the players it was the first time they had played against an opponent in a real match. The Lady Outlaws basketball squad (No. 3 in league play) matched up against the Lady Bulldogs (No. 2) at Creswell on Friday, February 16, in a league playoff game. Sisters fell in a final score of 41-52, and with the loss played Elmira (No.4) the following day. This time they walked off the court with a 46-37 victory. The Outlaws pushed their limits and took risks at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing 2024 State Championships at Mt. Hood Meadows, Wednesday through Friday, March 6-8. They didn't make top finishes, but they ended their season on a spirited note. Wednesday was a training day. The snow was dry and cold with sunny skies and calm winds, which made for a fun day and great team bonding. The girls tennis squad returns several players and hopes to repeat as the Special District 4 champions again this year. Leading the way will be senior Juhree Kizziar, who was undefeated in conference play last year, and was the No. 1 singles champion at district. Kizziar has been playing all winter at the Athletic Club of Bend, and, according to Coach Bruce Fenn, her game is even better in all areas — especially her serve and volleys. The boys tennis team currently has nine players on their roster, but would love to add more so they can fill the slate. Players are fairly young and new to the sport, so it will be a building year for the Outlaws. Junior Jude Parzybok and sophomore Dominic Pulver are top returning players. Pulver placed sixth at District last year and barely missed going to state. Both Pulver and Parzybok have very strong first serves, but their biggest weapons are their forehands at the baseline. Vince Grace, a long-time resident of Sisters, has taken over the reins as the new head coach for the boys' tennis team. Grace recently retired from the U.S. Forest Service, but still actively contributes in the summer months. Last year he volunteered to help Bruce Fenn with the girls' tennis program. He helped develop the girls' team to be more competitive with hitting practice, repetition, and consistency. He also helped attract other girls to the program and hopes to do the... Full story
Senior Justin DeSmet signed an official letter of intent on Thursday, February 22, to play football for George Fox University (GFU) Bruins this coming fall. DeSmet was a key player for the Outlaws and will be an asset to the Bruins football squad. DeSmet grew up in Dayton and lived there until he moved to Sisters as a junior. For the first time in school history, the Lady Outlaws basketball squad came out on top in the first round of the state playoffs. They travelled all the way to the coast on Wednesday, February 21, and took on No. 13-ranked Warrenton Warriors. The Outlaws battled hard in their first league playoff game at home against Siuslaw on Friday, February 16, and posted a 62-55 victory. The following day they faced Creswell in a must-win game held at Thurston High School. Sisters came up short in a final score of 40-54, which brought their season to an abrupt finish. Shae Wyland, Ila Reid, Audrey Corcoran, and Maggie Lutz were all selected to the Mountain Valley All Conference Team. Junior post Wyland was a first-team pick and was also named to the All Defensive Team. Wyland led the Outlaws with 12 rebounds per game, four-plus blocked shots, and scored an average of six points per game. The Lady Outlaws basketball squad suffered a heart-wrenching 40-42 loss to the visiting Creswell Bulldogs in the final minute of the game on Tuesday, February 6. A win would have given them a second-place tie with Creswell, but with the loss they finished third, regardless of the outcome of their final league game on the road against Harrisburg on Friday. Sisters High School Alpine ski team competed in the third slalom race of the Emerald Ski League's season. The race was held on a run called Swoosh at Willamette Pass and conditions were near perfect with sunny skies, no wind, and a hard, fast, racing surface. The Outlaws’ five seniors, Austin Dean, Brody Fischer, Ila Reid, Maggie Lutz, and Jenna Lake were honored between the varsity girls and boys games in Tuesday’s contest at home against Creswell.
