The Outlaws basketball squad posted three wins last week, including a 57-49 win at Elmira on Tuesday, January 30, and three days later a 62-57 win at home over Siuslaw. The Lady Outlaws squeaked out a 48-46 win on the road at Elmira on Tuesday, January 30, and at home three days later defeated Siuslaw 53-25. On Saturday the Lady Outlaws fell 35-40 in a hard-fought battle at Creswell, in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season due to the stormy weather. The Outlaws ski team competed in a slalom race at Hoodoo on February 3, and for the first time this season raced under sunny conditions with a smooth racing surface. Sisters girls finished first, second, and third and won the race by a large margin. Presley Adelt took first with a combined time of 1:11.62, Tallis Grummer placed second with a time of 1:13.94, and Ella Eby took third with a time of 1:14.88. The Alpine Ski Teams competed in two races last week, the first a Giant Slalom on Wednesday, January 24, at Hoodoo Ski Area, and three days later a slalom race at Willamette Pass. Conditions were very wet and stormy on Wednesday at Hoodoo, and the race officials cancelled the second run, which made it a one-run race. The girls team took first place for the day, but the boys struggled with the soft, rutted course conditions, and finished third. The Outlaws basketball squad fell 50-62 on the road to the Siuslaw Vikings on Monday, January 22, in a game that had been rescheduled due to inclement weather the previous week. Three days later they lost 49-69 on the road at Pleasant Hill, and on Saturday they suffered a tough 59-63 loss at home against La Pine. The Outlaws fell 25-35 to the Harrisburg Eagles at home on Saturday, January 20, in a low-scoring, low-tempo contest. Harrisburg is the top team in the Mountain Valley Conference. Sisters couldn’t find any rhythm against the tough Eagles’ defense at the start of the contest and quickly fell behind 1-8. Sisters Lady Outlaws got off to a very slow start in their game against Harrisburg at home on Saturday, January 20, but clawed back in the second half, took the lead in the final quarter, and recorded the 47-44 win. The Sisters Outlaws Alpine Ski Team made a strong showing at the first Emerald League High School Alpine Ski Race of the 2024 season. Both the boys and girls teams won first place in the team score. Sisters competed in a Giant Slalom race that was held at Willamette Pass on Saturday, January 20. Conditions for the race held true to the El Niño theme of this winter, with gusty winds, a bit of rain, and heavy wet snow. Sisters girls basketball team squeaked past Elirma on Monday, January 8, in an exciting match-up that ended in a dramatic 43-40 finish. The Outlaws got off to a slow start, but midway through the first quarter Jenna Lake banked in a three-pointer that gave the Outlaws a 8-6 lead. That ended Sisters scoring for the quarter. The Outlaws boys basketball squad defeated the visiting Elmira Falcons 55-53 on Monday, January 8, with a layup from Landon Scott at the buzzer. In the first quarter, the score went back-and-forth in the first quarter with several lead changes. With 1:30 left Austin Dean made a driving layup to tie it up 13-13. On the next possession, Dean stole the ball, and dished it off to Oliver Bernhardt who scored the layup. Bernhardt was fouled on the shot, made the free throw, and took the Outlaws to a 16-13 lead. The Lady Outlaws won one of their three games at the Sisters Shootout held Thursday through Saturday, December 28-30. The tourney was round-robin style, and each team played three games. In addition to Sisters, teams from around the state were at the event, including Madras, Junction City, Henley, Sweet Home, Hidden Valley, Banks, and La Grande. Sisters opened Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) at home against the OSAA No. 2-ranked Pleasant Hill Billies, who are favored to win the MVC league championship this season. The Lady Outlaws basketball team trailed the entire contest against the Pleasant Hill (PH) Billies in the league opener at home on Wednesday, January 3, and lost in a final score of 42-35. Three days later, they crushed the La Pine Hawks 58-21 on the road. Bandits Baseball is comprised of 10U and 12U travel baseball teams based here in Sisters, and this past weekend they picked up Christmas trees all around the Sisters area. Players made over 50 stops on Saturday, January 6, and made just over $800 that will be put towards tournament fees, gear, and facility use fees. The Outlaws hosted the annual Sisters Shootout Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, December 28-30. Sisters got off to a great start with a 50-36 win over the Mazama Vikings on Thursday, but a day later suffered a tough 33-51 loss to Banks. They faced the Hidden Valley Mustangs in their final game on Saturday and lost 47-50 in a tight contest. Marley Holden has signed an official letter of intent to play soccer for the Corban University Warriors. Holden has been a four-year starter for the Sisters Lady Outlaws, a leader, and a very integral part of the squad, and has dreamed of playing at the collegiate level since she was in seventh grade. The Outlaws boys hopsters came out on top 48-42 at home against the visiting Sweet Home Huskies on Tuesday, December 19, and a day later fell 45-58 on the road at Estacada. On Tuesday against the Huskies the score went back and forth during the first quarter, and was knotted up four times. The Outlaws played hard against the visiting Cottage Grove (CG) Lions on Tuesday, December 12, but lost by three, 45-48, in an exciting fourth-quarter battle. Three days later at South Umpqua the Outlaws prevailed and posted a 61-44 victory. The Sisters Outlaws Alpine Ski Team is getting ready for the upcoming season. They will field 26 athletes, 19 skiers who return from last year, and seven who are new to the program this year. The girls squad returns the most skiers and the most upperclassmen the Outlaws have had in many years. The girls basketball squad fell 37-50 at home to Cottage Grove on Tuesday, December 12, but three days later, they bounced back with a 65-47 victory on the road at South Umpqua. In Tuesday’s action against the Lady Lions the Outlaws were shorthanded, with one starter out, with an injury and another for academic reasons. The girls soccer squad wrapped up a perfect league season, made it to the state semifinals and to top it off had three players make All-state teams. Marley Holden was a first-team pick and Izzy Schiller and Katie Ryan were both second-team selections. Holden, for the second consecutive year, led the Outlaws in both goals and assists, 21 and 11 respectively. She was a stellar midfielder who was the “engine” of the team.
