Sisters Bike Park 242 is located on the edge of the Sisters High School parking lot. It provides an outlet for kids, of all ages, to get a little dusty and 'send it' while riding their bikes. In October 2015, the bike park received donations to start building a small pump track. In April of 2016, the big pump track was created. The Sisters Fire Corps is a well-oiled community service machine. The Sisters Fire Corps was founded in 2004 and helps build capacity within a fire district by engaging volunteers to assist in non-emergency roles. Coming into the 2024 lacrosse season the Sisters Outlaws lacrosse girls team was facing a challenge: Either don't have a lacrosse team, due to the lack of players, or figure out some way to combine with a neighboring program to complete a team. When I moved to Sisters coming into my freshman year, I was petrified. I was thrown into a new state not only with people I didn’t know, but an environment I didn’t understand. Everyone was so close-knit and connected, it felt hard to find my way into a friend group that didn’t want me. As the summer progressed, my mom encouraged me (made me) try out for the soccer team. Sisters High School artist Miliani Spencer recently won the Hayden Homes Scholarship. Hayden Homes has donated money to sponsor Sisters High School art students for five years now. This year's winner was awarded $2,500 dollars for her art piece known as "The Skies Field of View." Libraries have always served as a quiet, book- filled, welcoming workplace. Knowing this, kids or adults are drawn to the reliability of it being a safe place. According to KAPPEN, a K-12 education-focused magazine, schools that have libraries and librarians are prone to have better graduation rates, higher reading levels throughout grades, and mastery of educational skills. Sheryl Yeager runs the aviation program at Sisters High School (SHS). Yeager has been teaching for 29 years and teaching aviation classes at SHS for seven. Over the past summer Sisters Aviation experienced some challenges which concluded in the program no longer being able to fly. Every year in the fall, Sisters fabric artist and entrepreneur Valori Wells goes to the North African nation of Morocco with people from all over the U.S., to explore the culture and daily activities of Moroccan people. Wells founded the program known as Creative Retreats and normally takes about 12 people on each retreat. The Sisters alpine ski race team will host the 2023 OISRA (Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association) State Championships at Hoodoo this year. This is the first time in over two decades that Hoodoo has hosted the championship alpine ski race. The race will be the first weekend in March. Wednesday March 1, will be a warm-up/travel day.
