Charlotte Milam has enjoyed donating her extensive art talents and productions to the Sisters Library and to the Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) for several years. Back in 2001, folks in the Sisters Country were reminded that South Sister, one of the beauties of our horizon, is, in fact, a volcano. Scientists from the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) were doing an analysis of satellite radar data and discovered an area about 10 miles in diameter had bulged about four inches at its center. The Outlaws' strong defensive effort led to a 62-42 win over Estacada in their first game of the Sisters Annual Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, December 28. Sixty-two runners and walkers braved the chilly air of New Year's Day morning as participants in the inaugural Resolution Run and Walk, a benefit for the life skills program at Sisters Middle School. The low-key event provided contestants with a choice of a five-kilometer or five-mile course through the side-streets west of Sisters Athletic Club. Kimberly Gorayeb has a passion for the sport of lacrosse - and for bringing families together for the fun of a night playing bingo. For the past four years, she's put the two together in fundraising events that have netted thousands of dollars to support the fast-growing Outlaws lacrosse program in Sisters. The organization will be called Sisters Astronomy Club (SAC) and will operate under the Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) as a community partner committee. The Lady Outlaws went one for three at the annual Sisters Holiday Tournament, held Tuesday and Wednesday, December 28-29. Heavy snowfall in December turned the Sisters Country into a holiday winter wonderland - but it created some headaches for local merchants and those responsible for managing snow in the city. The Sisters Folk Festival's 2011 Winter Concert Series has a bit of competition for people's attention during their first concert. Raymond (Ray) Dale Mumford passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on December 25 in Bend at the age of 88. Ray was born in San Dimas, California, growing up among the citrus groves, and quickly proving adept at repairing engines and automobiles. When the U.S. entered World War II, Ray's mechanical skills and talent were desperately needed here at home. Kenneth Wayne Uphoff of Portland was born on December 10, 1930 in Salem. He passed away peacefully December 29, 2010 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Grandpa Ken loved spending time in Sisters with his daughter and grandchildren. He delighted in watching his grandchildren grow and play, and they were a source of pride and pleasure, as well as constant amusement. A woman requested standby while she retrieved her stuff from the home she used to share with her boyfriend. She was afraid the ex would throw her stuff in the yard. A Deschutes County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a dog on Tuesday morning when the deputy was attacked while attempting to arrest a Sisters man wanted on sex abuse charges. According to sheriff's office reports, the deputy was attacked by five large dogs and bitten by one, though he was not injured. The wanted man later surrendered. Capt.
