    Three city councilors will be sworn in on Thursday, January 8. Incumbents Wendy Holzman and David Asson both won reelection in the November election. Asson received enough votes to earn four more years on the council; Holzman will serve another two-year term. Nancy Connolly is the only newcomer elected in November. She will serve a four-year term.     Eight staff members of the National Weather Service in Pendleton voted on the 10 most important local weather events of 2014. The No. 1 weather story was the December 11 extreme wind which brought hurricane force wind gusts and widespread damage. A summary of 2014's top 10 local weather follows: 10.   • Ducks fans witness historic victory

    When the Oregon Ducks took the field in Pasadena on Thursday, January 1, to battle the Florida State Seminoles for a slot in the college football national championship game, they had the backing of a strong contingent from Sisters. NFL Hall-of-Fame quarterback and U of O alum Dan Fouts was on the 50-yard-line for the coin toss, named the Ducks' honorary captain.     To the Editor: In mid-November we launched our annual donation campaign for the Sisters Park & Recreation District. The campaign is going great so far with donations this year ahead of this time last year, so thank you to all those who have donated. We can't do this without you. This year's donor campaign is focused on our Community Schools Program, and our Scholarship Program. Both of these programs are almost entirely funded by grants and donations.     The Outlaws had a good showing at the annual Sisters Holiday Tournament held Monday through Wednesday, December 29-31. Sisters finished second, behind No. 2 state ranked Scappoose. Banks took third. Sisters started the tourney with a big 63-32 win over Illinois Valley. The Outlaws played four consistent quarters and transitioned well throughout the contest.     Jackie, Jim, Ethan and Trish Erickson wrote: As many of you know, Jim Erickson suffered a heart attack that put him in full cardiac arrest on Sunday December 21. He was air-lifted to St. Charles. His prognosis was not good. But we are now happy to report after two weeks of intensive care and a little miracle, Jim will be moving to Pilot Butte Rehab for a couple of weeks and then home. This would not have been possible without a whole slew of people. We can't even begin to thank the many, many people who made this possible.... Full story
