  • Boys' basketball team hits slump

    The boys' basketball team had a rough time this past week after flying high the week before. The Outlaws lost 55-72 at home to Pleasant Hill on Tuesday, January 16 and then 46-81 three days later at Marist. The previous week the Outlaws' high energy and up tempo play led them to a 103-84 home victory over Elmira on Wednesday, January 3 and a 66-44 victory over 3A Burns two days later on Friday, January 5.   • Young basketball team wraps up season

    The eighth grade boys' basketball team worked hard and improved throughout the entire season which ran the last week of October through December. Coach Justin Nicklous told The Nugget that the boys had few practices before their first game and worked hard to learn new offensive and defensive strategies.     The Outlaws' wrestlers lost 13-63 to league-leader La Pine at home on Thursday, January18. Sisters' already thin line-up was further reduced by an injury, an illness and a grade-related absence. The Outlaws matched up with some of La Pine's better wresters and split the six matches that were contested.   • Dentist buys practice

    The newest dentist in Sisters has had a big smile since starting his own practice in the town he has loved since boyhood. Brad Braman, DMD, purchased his practice from dentist Kris Blodgett and began seeing patients in January. The four prior employees remain with the practice.   • Sisters couple makes major donation to SOAR

    Jan and Mike Morgan surprised the SOAR Foundation on Tuesday, January 9, with a check for $10,000. The personal donation is to be used to support youth programs and develop recreation programs for adults. "We have not heard anything but good reports about SOAR and what it offers to the Sisters community," Mike Morgan said. "We live in a neighborhood with lots of children and teens who have been participating at SOAR since we have lived here.   • Sisters woman involved in crash in Tumalo

    A 23-year-old Sisters woman and her two-week-old infant were involved in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 in Tumalo on Tuesday, January 23. According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, a cell phone caller reported an injury motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 20 west and Cook Avenue. Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded along with Bend Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).   • Schools are under budget on capital improvement projects

    There is a ray of sunshine in the Sisters School District's current storm of controversies over state withholding of funds and the hiring of a new superintendent. The district has saved almost $48,000 in a series of projects. Working under the guidelines of its newly initiated Capital Projects Management Process, the Sisters School District has completed during the past 11 months 18 capital improvement projects at a cost of $551,780.13.     With the Northern League of the OISRA diminished to just two complete boys' teams, Sisters swept to an easy team victory at its latest meet at Hoodoo Mountain Resort on Saturday, January 20.     With the second of six league races now complete, the Sisters High School Women's Alpine Ski Team is showing they will be the team to beat for the Central League Championship this year.
