  • Crash takes down phone service

    Slick road conditions after a snowfall on Friday morning led to a wreck that took down phone service to an area east of Sisters. A tractor trailer left the roadway on Highway 126 about two miles east of Sisters at about 6:30 a.m., plowed through fencing, took down three Qwest phone poles and damaged another. The wreck blocked the highway all morning and obstructed traffic through the day as crews worked to restore phone service to 100 to 145 customers. About 50 high-speed... Full story

  • Sisters Charter Academy to appeal termination

    The Sisters Charter Academy of Fine Arts (SCAFA) board of directors has voted unanimously to appeal termination by the Sisters School District board, which would have closed the small charter school effective Friday, January 15. The board will not seek to renew its charter with the district for next year. As with all things, wrestling must grow, and for it to grow you must start young.   • Artists demonstrate work at Caldera

    Caldera presented the art and artists participating in the Caldera Artist Residency Program last Saturday.     The girls basketball team suffered a tough 37-26 loss at home to Junction City on Tuesday, January 19. JC jumped out with an early 4-0 lead and held the Lady Outlaws scoreless for four-and-a-half minutes.     Four wrestlers earned first- place finishes against La Pine at home on January 21. The Outlaws lost 60-18 to the Hawks, but individual Outlaws had success on the mat.     The Outlaws Nordic ski team faced its toughest challenge of the season at Saturday's Mt. Bachelor Pursuit and came through with some top finishes. Snow conditions were "absolutely perfect" for classic waxing, according to head coach Tom Blust. Pursuit racing includes two stages.
