A light dusting of snow on Monday reminded folks in the Sisters Country that it is, in fact, winter. You'd never have known it by the weather we basked in through late January. While much of the country was buried in heavy snowstorms and the NFL playoffs went off in frigid temperatures, the Sisters Country enjoyed golden sunshine and temperatures that bumped up against the 60-degree mark. Green shoots shot up where they shouldn't be for a couple more months and outdoor... Full story

The newly formed Sisters Homeless Coalition is asking the Sisters community to donate camping/survival gear such as tents, sleeping bags and other items to be distributed to homeless people in the Sisters Country. It is especially critical during these cold winter and spring months to have gear on hand when homeless people suddenly find themselves sleeping out in the forest, in a car, or in a friend's garage. Items may be dropped off at Habitat for Humanity's Thrift Store or at ReStore, 254 W. Adams Ave. (during regular... Full story
It's a little unusual to see smoke rising on the Sisters skyline in late January. The unseasonable springlike weather opened a window of opportunity to take care of some unfinished business in the Sisters Country forests - and local foresters jumped on it. Crews last week got busy torching slash piles on 300 acres of forest to the southwest of town, debris left behind from the SAFR project (Sisters Area Fuels Reduction). Sisters Ranger District fuels specialist Trevor Miller... Full story
To the Editor: In response to the "Gym and field space at a premium in Sisters" article in the January 26 Nugget, some issues need to be addressed. What is the article really about and what is an "outside club" supposed to mean? Why would "outsiders" want to come all the way to Sisters and use the facilities? The truth is these "outsiders" are 11- to 13-year-old girls from Sisters that have chosen a fantastic opportunity to try out for and participate in the Rimrock Club Volleyball program. The Rimrock Volleyball Club in... Full story

The Friends of the Sisters Library annual art exhibit, hanging throughout the library, is into its third week, and it seems everyone who has been in to view the varied pieces is reluctant to leave. Comments ranging from, "isn't this so cool," to "oh, I wish I could do that," are common. Among the over 100 pieces of art - everything from feathered masks to beautiful oils, photos and watercolors to a didgeridoo - is Chris Green's striking rendition of Autzen Stadium, over at... Sisters' matmen traveled to Madras on Thursday, January 27, and competed against Madras, Mollala and La Pine. There were no team scores recorded at this tournament. Long (135 pounds) pinned Ryley Aamodt in 1:52 in the first round with the Peterson Pin combination. Three Outlaws matmen came out on top against Molalla. O'Brien again proved he's a... Full story
In their last meet before district championships, both girls and boys squads faced two of their toughest teams to beat. Sweet Home's Cougars easily won the men's events with 152 points to the Outlaws' 85 points, and Stayton's Eagles edged out Sisters High School by 20. Several disqualifications for the Outlaws contributed to the point differential. However, many personal records were set in relay and individual events. The girls medley "A" relay with Katie Stewart (backstroke)... Full story
